UFC Light Heavyweight Champ Jon Jones Hints at Potential Bout vs. Stipe Miocic in July
Maybe Jon Jones won’t spend the rest of his 2019 cleaning out the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s light heavyweight division after all.

“I don’t think you guys are ready to witness [Stipe Miocic and I, would July give you all enough time?” Jones wrote.

In the past, Jones has contemplated a move up a division but more recently seemed content to remain at light heavyweight. If Jones vs. Miocic is indeed booked, that could mean that the long-anticipated matchup between heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and Brock Lesnar is in the works, as well. Jones has said that “DC” would have to come down to 205 pounds for a trilogy bout, but that sentiment could change if this particular scenario comes to fruition. Thus far, the UFC has not made an announcement regarding Jones-Miocic or Cormier-Lesnar.
Jones returned from his latest USADA suspension at UFC 232 in December, when he defeated Alexander Gustafsson via third-round knockout to claim the vacated light heavyweight belt. He successfully defended the title with a dominant five-round verdict over Anthony Smith at UFC 235 on March 1.
