Say this much: Randa Markos knows how to bounce back from a setback.

Markos (10-7-1) bested Ashley Yoder (7-5) in the strawweight featured prelim of UFC Fight Night 162 in Singapore and in so doing, extended a 15-fight streak in which she has alternated wins and losses, with the exception of her majority draw with Marina Rodriguez. Yoder brought the fight to the canvas within the first minute with a hip toss, and the two women spent the balance of the first round exchanging submission attempts. The second and third rounds were characterized by Markos’ superior volume and power on the feet, and Yoder’s attempts to bring the fight back to the ground, where she was successful for at least brief stretches in both rounds. After three rounds, the judges gave the fight to Markos via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).

The loss snaps Yoder’s modest two-fight win streak after losing her first three UFC fights, while Markos’ UFC ledger is balanced — yet again — at 6-6-1.

Fiziev Dominates White

Lightweight prospect Rafael Fiziev righted the ship after his first career loss, chewing up Alex White with kicks and punches for three largely one-sided rounds. The first round was the most dominant for Fiziev, as he had White in trouble early with a salvo of knees to the head from the front headlock position. While he would not come close to finishing the fight again, Fiziev was sharper throughout; by the end of the fight, White was bleeding above both eyes and suffering the effects of the Kyrgyz fighter’s heavy leg kicks. The judges saw the fight for Fiziev by scorecards of 30-27 (twice) and 29-28.

“Ataman” goes to 7-1, while White drops to 13-6 (4-6 UFC).

Evloev Stays Undefeated Over Barzola

Movsar Evloev kept his perfect record intact, but not without being pushed, as he engaged in a spirited featherweight tilt with Enrique Barzola. The first round was decidedly Evloev’s, as he beat the Peruvian to the punch and executed effortless takedowns. The second and third rounds, however, were far more contentious, as Barzola began winning more of the close-quarters exchanges and even struck for takedowns on the Russian wrestler. In the end, Evloev carried the day by scorecards of 29-28, 29-28 and 30-27, to move to 12-0, while the loss leaves Barzola at 16-5.

Pavlovich Pummels Greene

Sergei Pavlovich continued to scale the heavyweight ladder as he mauled Maurice Greene with first-round punches. Pavlovich began tagging the taller Greene with hard left jabs and straight rights almost immediately, and it was one particularly sharp right that marked the beginning of the end. Greene went down in a daze, grabbing a desperation single-leg as Pavlovich flurried with punches and hammer fists. At 2:11 of the first round, referee Herb Dean had seen enough, awarding the Russian the TKO win. With the win, his second straight after dropping his UFC debut to Alistair Overeem, Pavlovich is now 14-1; Greene goes to 8-3.

Suphisara Outsrikes Albu

Konklak Suphisara made a successful UFC debut, roughing up Aleksandra Albu across three rounds. The first Thai fighter to appear in the UFC Octagon, “Loma Lookboonmee” used a variety of punches, kicks and clinch throws to keep Albu looking a step behind and occasionally overwhelmed, particularly in the first round, where Albu drew a warning for repeatedly grabbing Lookboonmee’s jersey. After 15 minutes, Suphisara took a rather mystifying split decision (30-27 28-29, 30-27) to run her career tally to 4-1; Albu falls to 3-2.

Pessoa Decisions Hughes

In the opening bout of the evening, Raphael Pessoa took a unanimous decision over Jeff Hughes. Former Legacy Fighting Alliance heavyweight champ Pessoa used his greater length to keep the Ohioan on the end of his punches and kicks for most of three rounds, stinging his legs and body with kicks and causing his right eye to swell completely shut. All three judges awarded the fight to Pessoa, 30-27.

The win moves “Bebezao” to 10-1 overall and evens his UFC ledger at 1-1, while Hughes falls to 10-3 with one no-contest. Advertisement
