Calvin Kattar and Dan Ige have a golden opportunity to make a statement in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s featherweight division.
The 145-pound contenders made weight without issue on Tuesday ahead of their bout in the UFC on ESPN 13 main event. Kattar tipped the scales at 145 pounds, while Ige checked in at 145.
Kattar has won three of his last four Octagon appearances and is coming off a brutal second-round KO of Jeremy Stephens at UFC 249 on May 9. “The Boston Finisher” owns other notable wins over the likes of Ricardo Lamas, Shane Burgos and Andre Fili during his promotional tenure.
An alum of Dana White’s Contender series, Ige has won six consecutive fights in the Las Vegas-based organization after falling to Julio Arce in his debut. Most recently, the Honolulu native edged Edson Barboza via split decision at UFC on ESPN 8.
Weigh-ins did not go as smoothly for several others scheduled to compete on Wednesday. A light heavyweight bout pitting Jorge Gonzalez against Kenneth Bergh was scrapped after Bergh was deemed unfit to make the cut to 206 pounds. Gonzalez, meanwhile, hit his mark successfully at 205 pounds. A replacement opponent will not be sought for Gonzalez.
Elsewhere, Abdul Razak Alhassan tipped the scales at 174 pounds for his welterweight clash with Mounir Lazzez (171) and has been fined 20 percent of his purse. Chris Fishgold was also fined 20 percent of his purse after checking in at 149 pounds for a featherweight showdown with Jared Gordon (145).
UFC on ESPN 13 takes place at the Flash Forum on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday. The main card airs on ESPN and ESPN+ at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT following prelims on ESPN and ESPN+ at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT.
