UFC on ESPN 22 Medical Suspensions: Three Fighters Facing Possible 6-Month Layoffs

Three fighters from this past Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 22 card are facing potentially lengthy layoffs.

The Nevada Athletic Commission recently released a full list of medical suspensions from Saturday’s card to mixedmartialarts.com. Chase Sherman (left knee, right foot, right tibia/fibia), Luis Pena (left hand) and Juan Espino (right elbow) all must receive doctor clearance for their respective ailments are they could be sidelined up to six months.

UFC on ESPN 22 took place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas and saw Robert Whittaker earn a five-round verdict against Kelvin Gastelum in the evening’s middleweight headliner. Whittaker is suspended until May 18 with no contact until May 9 due to a hard fight, while Kelvin Gastelum received the same term due to a right eyelid laceration.

Robert Whittaker: suspended until 5/18/21, no contact until 5/9/21 — hard fight

Kelvin Gastelum: suspended until 5/18/21, no contact until 5/9/21 — right eyelid laceration

Andrei Arlovski: suspended until 5/18/21, no contact until 5/9/21 — hard fight

Chase Sherman: must have MRI of left knee, x-ray of right foot and right tibia/fibia. If any positive must have orthopedic doctor clearance or no contest until 10/15/21. Minimum suspension no contest until 5/18/21. No contact until 5/18/21

Jacob Malkoun: suspended until 5/9/21, no contact until 5/2/21

Abdul Razak Alhassan: suspended until 5/18/21, no contact until 5/9/21

Tracy Cortez: suspended until 5/9/21, no contact until 5/2/21

Justine Kish: suspended until 5/9/21, no contact until 5/2/21

Luis Pena: must have x-ray of left hand, if positive must have orthopedic doctor clearance or no contest until 10/15/21, minimum suspension no contest until 5/18/21. No contact until 5/9/21

Alex Munoz: suspended until 5/9/21, no contact until 5/2/21

Alexander Romanov: suspended until 5/18/21, no contact until 5/9/21

Juan Espino: must have MRI of right elbow, if positive must have orthopedic doctor clearance or no contest until 10/15/21

Jessica Penne: suspended until 5/18/21, no contact until 5/9/21 – left eyebrow laceration

Bartosz Fabinski: suspended until 5/18/21, no contact until 5/9/21 – laceration under right eye

Austin Hubbard: suspended until 5/9/21, no contact until 5/2/21

Dakota Bush: suspended until 5/2/21, no contact until 4/25/21

Anthony Birchak: suspended until 6/2/21, no contact until 5/18/21
