The night before weigh-ins for the next Ultimate Fighting Championship card, the co-main event has fallen through.
Ladd was looking to compete for the first time since 2019, when she successfully rebounded from her first career defeat by pounding out Yana Kunitskaya at UFC on ESPN 7. The California native was initially booked against Sara McMann in mid-2020, but she tore her ACL and MCL to knock her out of that bout and an additional year of competition. Ladd posts a career finish rate of 78 percent, with stoppages in three of her last four victories.
Chiasson has been somewhat more active than Ladd, competing in March against Marion Reneau and capturing a unanimous decision. The Fortis MMA product has rattled off a pair of decision wins since suffering her first defeat, a decision to Lina Lansberg. Chiasson won the 28th season of “The Ultimate Fighter” and subsequently dropped down to bantamweight, where she has beaten the likes of Reneau, Sarah Moras and Gina Mazany to date.
UFC on ESPN 27 will carry on with 11 bouts at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, with the headliner still intact between Cory Sandhagen and T.J. Dillashaw at bantamweight. The organization has not yet indicated if a different match will be elevated to co-main status, but at the moment, a bantamweight tilt between Kyler Phillips and Raulian Paiva resides in that second-to-last slot. Other main card matchups include Darren Elkins vs. Darrick Minner at featherweight, Miranda Maverick vs. Maycee Barber at flyweight and Adrian Yanez against Randy Costa in a much-anticipated 135-pound battle.
