UFC on ESPN 29 Medical Suspensions: Cannonier, Pantoja Among Those Facing 6 Months

Two of the big winners from UFC on ESPN 29 could be facing potentially lenghty medical suspensions.

Jared Cannonier, who captured a unanimous decision win over Kelvin Gastelum in Saturday’s headliner at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, must have a right foot X-ray after his latest middleweight triumph. If the result is positive, he needs orthopedic clearance or he will be sidelined until Feb. 18. Gastelum, meanwhile, is suspended until Sept. 21 with no contact until Sept. 12.

Meanwhile, Alexandre Pantoja is also facing a six-month term following a submission victory over Brandon Royval in a battle of flyweight contenders. Pantoja must have a left knee MRI and receive doctor clearance or he too will be out of action until Feb. 18. At a minimum, the Brazilian is sidelined until Sept. 21. Royval is also facing a six-month suspension pending the result of an orbital catscan and doctor clearance.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission recently released a full list of medical suspensions from this past Saturday’s event to mixedmartialarts.com. Three other athletes from UFC on ESPN 29 are facing possible six-month sits: Luis Saldana (left foot, left hand), Domingo Pilarte (left knee) and Josiane Nunes (left foot).

Jared Cannonier: must have right foot X-ray. If positive, must have orthopedic doctor clearance or no contest until 02/18/22

Kelvin Gastelum: suspended until 09/21/21. No contact until 09/12/21

Parker Porter: suspended until 09/21/21. No contact until 09/12/21

Chase Sherman: suspended until 09/21/21. No contact until 09/12/21 – right foot and thumb pain

Vinc Pichel: must have laceration above left eyebrow cleared or no contest until 09/21/21. No contact until 09/12/21

Austin Hubbard: suspended until 09/21/21. No contact until 09/12/21

Alexandre Pantoja: must have left knee MRI. If positive, must have orthopedic or sports medicine doctor clearance or no contest until 02/18/22. Minimum suspension, no contest or contact, until 09/21/21

Brandon Royval: must have an orbital catscan. If positive, must have ENT doctor or maxillofacial surgeon clearance, or no-contest until 02/18/22. Minimum suspension no contest until 09/12/21, no contact until 09/05/21

Austin Lingo: suspended until 10/06/21. No contact until 09/21/21 – bilateral lacerations near eyes

Luis Saldana: must have left foot and left hand X-rays. If positive, must have orthopedic doctor clearance or no contest until 02/18/22. Minimum suspension no contest until 10/06/21, no contact until 09/21/21

Domingo Pilarte: must have a left knee MRI. If positive, must have orthopedic doctor clearance or no contest until 02/18/22. Minimum suspension no contest until 09/21/21, no contact until 09/12/21

Josiane Nunes: must have left foot X-ray. If positive, must have orthopedic doctor clearance or no contest until 02/18/22. Minimum suspension no contest until 09/12/21, no contact until 09/05/21

Bea Malecki: suspended until 10/21/21. No contact until 10/06/21

Fabio Cherant: suspended until 10/06/21. No contact until 09/21/21

Ignacio Bahamondes: suspended until 10/06/21. No contact until 09/21/21 – facial sutures

Roosevelt Roberts: suspended until 10/21/21. No contact until 10/06/21
