UFC on ESPN+ 2 Weigh-in Results: Two Heavy; One Off by Seven Pounds
The
Ultimate Fighting Championship is ready to take its first trip
to Brazil in 2019, and although the main event, a rematch between
Raphael
Assuncao and Marlon
Moraes is set, the weigh-ins were not without some drama this
morning as two fighters came in heavy.
Assuncao hit the scales at 136 pounds, as he prepares to again face Moraes (135) in the UFC on ESPN+ 2 main event this Saturday at the Centro de Formacao Olimpica do Nordeste in Fortaleza, Brazil. Co-headlining the card will be a featherweight battle between the former longtime champion Jose Aldo (146) and Renato Carneiro (145.5), who both made weight without issue at Friday’s early weigh-ins.
UFC on ESPN+ 2 "Assuncao vs. Moraes 2," which airs live on ESPN+ at
8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, also features a welterweight showdown between
former title challenger Demian Maia
(170.5) and former Bellator
MMA welterweight champ Lyman Good
(170.5). A pair of lightweights will square off, as the UFC's
all-time submission leader Charles
Oliveira (154.4) meets David
Teymur (156). Light heavyweights Johnny
Walker (205) and Justin
Ledet (205) will also be facing one another in an important
bout for the division's future. Starting off the main card will be
a strawweight bout between former
Invicta Fighting Championships strawweight queen Livinha
Souza (115.5) and the debuting Sarah Frota
(*123). All but one main card participant hit their proper
marks.
Two fighters missed weight: Sarah Frota (*123), who came in seven pounds over the strawweight limit and has been fined 40 percent of her purse; and Magomed Bibulatov (**127), who missed weight by one pound for his flyweight contest and has been fined 20 percent of his purse.
