Noad Lahat vs. Steven Siler

Round 1

The rangy Siler looks to keep Lahat out of the pocket with long leg kicks, but “Neo” gets inside to clinch and delivers a knee up the center. Thirty seconds in, Lahat shoots a double-leg and hits a takedown near the center of the cage, though he’s immediately forced to defend against a triangle from Siler. The submission goes by the wayside, so Siler slaps on a body triangle from underneath to hinder Lahat’s movement. Siler creeps his legs up for a high guard and holds Lahat in place until referee Jason Herzog stands them up with 2:45 on the clock. Lahat pushes forward, slaps Siler with a sweeping right hand and hits him with an inside leg kick. Lahat is scoring with combinations now, and he pushes Siler out of range with a jab before rushing him against the cage with an underhook. Lahat hits a trip inside but can’t keep Siler on the ground for more than a few seconds. Siler clips Lahat with an uppercut in the last 30 seconds, then slaps him with a high kick when the Israel native shoots low. Lahat gets Siler to the ground with another takedown in the closing seconds.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Lahat
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Lahat
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Lahat

Round 2

The featherweights spend the opening 45 seconds of round two feinting and twitching, then Lahat explodes forward and runs into another uppercut. Lahat catches Siler leaning and cracks him with a soccer kick, then goes body-head with a punching combination. Siler continues to score with his jab, staying out of the pocket and picking at the smaller man with snappy punches. He sends a one-two down the middle, blocks a high kick and sprawls on a double-leg from Lahat with about two minutes left in the round. With 80 seconds on the clock, Lahat runs Siler to the ground with a single-leg and takes his back. Siler nearly sweeps clear of the dangerous situation, but as he puts his opponent on the ground, Lahat catches him in a deep triangle. Siler gives referee Herzog a thumbs-up, but he spends the last half minute of the round in danger, with Lahat alternating between striking and trying to finish the choke.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Lahat
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Lahat
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Lahat

Round 3

Siler presses forward at the opening bell, moving Lahat toward the fence and then changing levels. He spins to take the back of the kneeling Lahat, then drops back to lock up a body triangle and secure rear mount. Lahat pops Siler with over-the-shoulder left hands and then switches to elbowing Siler’s legs. Siler is more concerned with position, keeping Lahat’s legs entangled until the 2:00 mark, when Siler gives up the position and stands. Back to trading, Siler hits Lahat with a left hook behind the ear and scores with a couple jabs behind it. Lahat is looking tired, throwing a slow high kick before attempting a half-hearted takedown. A hook on the ear nearly takes the legs out from under Lahat, but he stays standing and launches himself at Siler with a flying knee. The knee misses and Lahat’s shin lands on the cup of Siler, who takes a few moments to recover. Siler stuffs a takedown and then charges at Lahat to put “Neo” on the ground one more time with a left hook on the temple. Siler finishes the round dropping punches on Lahat from back mount.

Juliana de Lima Carneiro vs. Joanna Jedrzejczyk

Round 1

Lima shoots a double-leg from far out, can’t finish it and pushes Jedrzejczyk against the fence to work further for the takedown. The Brazilian switches to a single-leg now, trying to grapevine Jedrzejczyk’s leg and drag her to the ground. Jedrzejczyk keeps a wide base against the cage, but once Lima switches back to a high double-leg, she finally completes the takedown. Jedrzejczyk stands up immediately, and soon after, referee Mike Beltran separates the fighters. Jedrzejczyk counters a low kick with a big right hand, but Lima eats it to initiate another clinch on the cage. Lima lands a couple elbows in close quarters before the pace drops off and referee Beltran breaks them up again. Jedrzejczyk snaps off a jab, both men swing and miss with combinations, and Jedrzejczyk gets the last word in the round with a clubbing right hand.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Jedrzejczyk
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Lima
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Jedrzejczyk

Round 2

Jedrzejczyk hits Lima with an overhand right and a left to the body, and then slides out of range of a whipping front kick from Lima. It’s the Polish fighter working from the center now, keeping Lima on the outside and pressing out with big combinations. Jedrzejczyk is mixing it up now, adding high kicks and knees to the body in between her punches. Jedrzejczyk’s left hand is finding its mark in Lima’s breadbasket, and now even the right hand crosses over, aiming for Lima’s liver. Lima tries a double-leg midway through the round and winds up pressing Jedrzejczyk against the fence again. Lima is just holding Jedrzejczyk in the clinch, and again referee Beltran is forced to break it up. Jedrzejczyk pushes the action in the last 30 seconds, stalking Lima and firing hard combinations over the top. Jedrzejczyk finishes the round by putting her foot in Lima’s face with a front kick.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Jedrzejczyk
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Jedrzejczyk
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Jedrzejczyk

Round 3

Jedrzejczyk sends a right cross over Lima’s guard as the Polish fighter continues to push the pace early in round three. The jab is still working for Jedrzejczyk as she gets in Lima’s face and keeps the Brazilian on her back foot. Jedrzejczyk goes body-head with a pair of hooks, eats a right hand and grins at Lima, who has started to block some of Jedrzejczyk’s right hands upstairs but still isn’t mounting much offense of her own. Jedrzejczyk gets a little too confident with her combinations and doesn’t see a level change coming from Lima. The result is a takedown for “Ju Thai” near the center of the cage with about 2:00 on the clock. Jedrzejczyk holds Lima in a deep half guard, preventing Lima from securing a topside guillotine choke. Jedrzejczyk rolls to her knees, and the women scramble up in the whizzer position. Lima finishes the fight working for a double-leg against the fence.

Gilbert Burns vs. Andreas Stahl

Round 1

Burns lands a hard right hand out of the gate, answered in kind by Stahl before the welterweights tie up and clinch on the fence. “Durinho” looks for an inside trip but Stahl stays balanced and then hops on one leg as the Brazilian peels him away from the fence. Now it’s Stahl on the outside of the clinch, keeping Burns in place with an underhook and firing a knee to the body. Burns reverses again but still can’t get Stahl off balance. Stahl drives another knee up the center before the fighters separate, and this one opens a cut on the outer corner of Burns’ right eyebrow. Midway through the round, they’re back in the clinch, where Burns lands a knee to the body and Stahl returns fire with an uppercut. Burns misses as he exits the tie-up with a spinning elbow. Stahl presses forward with a speedy combination, a knee in the Thai plum and an uppercut to finish as he shoves Burns against the cage again. Burns explodes out, decks Stahl with an uppercut and changes levels again. Stahl nearly takes Burns’ back in the scramble this time but winds up back on his feet, held on the fence at round’s end.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Burns
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Stahl
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Stahl

Round 2

Stahl moves Burns across the cage with a pair of punches and a knee up the center. Burns strikes back with a hard, sneaky right hook counter the next time Stahl charges in with head lowered. Durinho puts together a couple combinations and lands a low kick before behind shoved against the cage. Burns escapes the clinch with a knee up the middle and slides away from a right-handed haymaker from the Swede. Stahl jabs his way into range midway through the round, then tags Burns with an overhand right and a knee. Stahl’s nose begins leaking blood -- a remnant from round one -- as he takes another uppercut on the mush. With 80 seconds on the clock, Burns hits a takedown in the middle of the cage and instantly passes to side control on Stahl’s right. Stahl is back on his feet with 40 seconds left but only manages to clinch with Burns on the fence until the horn.

TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Burns
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Burns

Round 3

Stahl puts Burns back on the fence and lands an uppercut on the entrance. Burns pushes the Swede away, takes a hard kick on the leg and escapes Stahl’s Thai clinch before any damage can be done. Stahl lunges into range with a long right cross, lands a knee in the clinch and puts Burns on the fence again. Burns reverses to take the outside position, and the welterweights separate to resume striking in the center after a right hand from the Brazilian. Stahl covers up as Burns unloads with a combination. Now it’s Stahl pressing ahead with a combo and Burns backpedaling to avoid the strikes. Stahl ducks under a hook, grazes with a two-punch combo and puts a slapping kick on Burns’ body. Burns presses Stahl against the cage with 80 seconds remaining and cracks him with an elbow on the exit 15 seconds later. Stahl lands a leg kick but eats a left hook counter, and this one is headed to the judges.

Akbarh Arreola vs. Tiago ‘Trator’ dos Santos e Silva

Round 1

It’s a tense opening minute to the fight as both lightweights test the range, with “Trator” picking at Arreola with a couple inside leg kicks. The Brazilian slips after a clash of kicks but pops back to his feet before Arreola can capitalize. Ninety seconds in, Trator lunges forward with a long right hand. Now it’s Arreola slipping to the ground and standing before Trator can pounce. Not much clean offense to speak of through the middle of the round, with Trator staking out his space in the center of the cage and bursting forward with the occasional right hand or combination. Arreola stays circling the outside until the final seconds of the round, when he turns a Trator clinch into a trip takedown.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Trator
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Trator
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Trator

Round 2

Trator chops the base out from under Arreola with a heavy kick and then stands over the Mexican, kicking at his legs. The Brazilian allows Arreola to stand about 90 seconds into the round and resumes his leg-kicking, now from the outside as Arreola pushes forward. Now, Trator reclaims the center of the cage and moves forward on Arreola to score with a hard, straight right. Arreola is doing very little here, just waiting to get hit by Trator’s right hand. Arreola makes a brief push to hit Trator with a body kick but soon finds himself defending against a takedown. Just as in round one, Arreola capitalizes on a mistake from Trator to score a late takedown. This time, Trator gets back to his feet right away and throws a combination that finishes with a kick to the midsection. Arreola returns the favor just before the horn with a kick to the ribs that knocks Trator sideways.

Sherdog Scores

TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Arreola
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Trator

Round 3

Trator presses the action early in the final round, moving Arreola toward the fence with winging combinations. He misses with a knee in the clinch, catches a kick from Arreola and falls to the ground as he tries to make Arreola pay. Straight back up goes Trator to clinch with Arreola on the fence, holding “El Caballero” in a clinch on the fence with 3:30 on the clock. They split with three minutes remaining and Arreola gets shoved against the cage again. Trator wades out, takes a kick to the ribs and resets to send a straight right down the center. Back to the clinch they go, Trator on the outside. Arreola tries to circle out and gets a punch to the gut. Trator catches up to his man, grabs the Thai plum and hits Arreola with some hard knees to the body. Thirty seconds left and Arreola is held in place on the fence with double underhooks, struggling to escape as the final horn sounds.

Mike de la Torre vs. Brian Ortega

Round 1

Ortega tries to keep the charging de la Torre at bay with a front kick, but de la Torre gets inside anyway to connect with a hard pair of punches. Ortega wraps up his opponent and drags him to the mat, where he immediately attaches himself to de la Torre’s back and begins working to secure a rear-naked choke. De la Torre struggles back to his feet and peels away Ortega’s hands, but de la Torre stays attached, reapplies the choke and squeezes down. De la Torre taps as his legs start to buckle, and referee John McCarthy steps in to halt to the contest.

The Official Result

Brian Ortega def. Mike de la Torre via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) R1 1:39

Tim Means vs. Hernani Perpetuo

Round 1

Perpetuo scores right off the bat with a heavy left hook that opens up Means for a body-head combination. Means hits a quick takedown but Perpetuo is right back on his feet, pressed against the fence by the “Dirty Bird.” The welterweights separate 30 seconds into the round. Perpetuo fires off some leg kicks from range before getting inside and clubbing Means with another left hook on the end of a combo. Both men connect with inside leg kicks, then Perpetuo snuffs out a takedown attempt. The Brazilian presses forward to sting Means with a three-punch combination, but this time Means returns fire with some hard standing elbows in the tie-up. Means goes outside with a leg kick and hits the incoming Perpetuo with another elbow. Perpetuo connects with a right hook upstairs as he flurries with a combo. Perpetuo comes back to try and clinch, but he takes a finger in the eye from Means. Referee Herb Dean pauses the action and warns both fighters to mind their fingers. Perpetuo ducks inside to punch and comes away complaining of a headbutt. He catches a kick from Means and slugs the American with a right hand before releasing the leg.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Perpetuo
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Perpetuo
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Perpetuo

Round 2

Perpetuo is throwing out high kicks and punching combinations to start round two, but Means is doing well to steer clear of the Brazilian’s offense now. Perpetuo gets through with a left to the body and right hook up top, answered with a chopping leg kick from Means. A spinning kick catches Means on the ribs, and Perpetuo blocks Means’ return fire, a left high kick, under his arm. A lead uppercut and follow-up left straight from Means sends Perpetuo stumbling backward. Means keeps his composure and does not try to finish, and it proves a smart move as Perpetuo seems to recover quickly. Means is using his jab down the stretch, keeping Perpetuo on the outside and covering up when the Brazilian bombs forward with combos. Perpetuo gets in the last shot of the round, however, putting a right hook on Means’ cheek.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Means
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Means
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Means

Round 3

Means continues to work his jab in round three, picking off Perpetuo when the Brazilian tries to get in the pocket to throw. This leads to Perpetuo circling the outside, using mostly leg kicks as he looks for an entryway. Means follows him around the perimeter, threatening with push kicks and feinted knees. Midway through the round, Perpetuo pushes back and comes to the center of the cage. He stings Means with a couple hard leg kicks inside but has to retreat when Means grabs for a Thai clinch and shoots a knee up the middle. Means is on his back foot now, push-kicking Perpetuo away while the Brazilian swings for the fences with right hands. Perpetuo points at his chin, which Means narrowly misses with a step-through knee. At the 10-second clapper, Means shoots for a double-leg against the fence. Perpetuo stays standing, and that’s where it ends. After the final horn sounds, Perpetuo points to his left forearm, indicating that he injured the appendage during the fight.

Patrick Cummins vs. Kyle Kingsbury

Round 1

Cummins sticks a jab and gets inside on a single-leg, dragging Kingsbury to the canvas in the first 30 seconds of the bout. Kingsbury climbs to his feet, gets ragdolled back to the ground and stands again. Now it’s Kingsbury pushing Cummins against the cage, but Cummins hits a trip with his back to the fence and puts Kingsbury on the ground for a third time in 90 seconds. Cummins connects with a pair of elbows and frames up a guillotine choke as Kingsbury kneels and then stands. Kingsbury is on his feet for a few seconds before Cummins tosses his back to the mat. Kingsbury stands again and keeps a hand on the ground to avoid any knees to the head. Kingsbury stuffs the next takedown attempt from Cummins and the 205ers walk back to the center of the cage. Kingsbury lands a leg kick but Cummins times the next one and turns it into another takedown. Cummins sits up in Kingsbury’s half guard and contemplates a brabo choke. He gives up the choke in order to drop elbows on Kingsbury’s face, switches to body punches and then comes back upstairs to deliver some forearm strikes. Referee John McCarthy warns Cummins about striking the back of the head as the light heavyweights stand to finish the round.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Cummins
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Cummins
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Cummins

Round 2

Kingsbury moves forward and hits Cummins with a couple leg kicks before Cummins reverses the momentum and hits a takedown at the base of the fence. Kingsbury clings on underneath, not allowing Cummins to flatten him out and working back to his feet about one minute into the round. Twenty-five seconds later, Cummins dumps him to the ground with a big double-leg. Kingsbury gets to a knee, then stands, but Cummins uses a front headlock to keep control of the situation. Referee McCarthy calls for action, and the fighters separate with 2:45 on the clock. Kingsbury goes back to kicking at Cummins’ legs until the wrestler opts to shoot and double-legs him down again. Cummins lands in mount this time, gets pushed back to half guard but continues to land heavy ground-and-pound with elbows and left hands. Sixty seconds remain in the round, and now Kingsbury is having some trouble getting back up. Cummins lands another 20 or so thunderous punches to Kingsbury’s face in the final half minute.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-8 Cummins
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Cummins

Round 3

Kingsbury is moving slowly at the start of round three, and he’s clipped by an uppercut before Cummins blasts him to the mat with yet another double-leg. With Kingsbury’s right side against the cage, Cummins sits up on the left side and unloads with right-handed hammer fists. Kingsbury gets to a knee, and Cummins keeps him there with a headlock for a few seconds but then releases. Kingsbury swings and misses with a high kick, and “Kingsbu” has about 3:00 left to make something happen. Cummins tries to ensure that won’t happen with another takedown along the fence. Kingsbury stands up, throws a few punches toward Cummins and gets taken down again. Cummins works from Kingsbury’s half guard with 60 seconds to go, standing up to hit the local favorite with three or four big left hands. Cummins sizes up a choke as Kingsbury stands, then releases to finish the fight with a pair of knees.

Daron Cruickshank vs. Jorge Masvidal

Round 1

Masvidal takes the center of the cage and follows as Cruickshank circles clockwise around the outside in the opening 90 seconds. Out of nowhere, a right cross floors Masvidal; Cruickshank doesn’t dive in and orders Masvidal right back to his feet. Masvidal recovers immediately and the fight resumes as if nothing happened, with Masvidal walking after the constantly moving Cruickshank. Masvidal puts a right hand behind Cruickshank’s ear, catches a kick and leaps at the “Detroit Superstar” with a big knee to the face. Another pair of knees follows before Cruickshank dips out and resumes his circling. Cruickshank pushes Masvidal away with a front kick to the face, then one to the body. Masvidal leans out of the way of a pair of Cruickshank punches but gets caught with a hard leg kick on the end of the combination. Now it’s Masvidal with a low kick-right straight combo. Cruickshank takes a kick to the midsection, comes off the fence and whiffs on a spinning back fist. With 30 seconds on the clock, Cruickshank gets stuffed on a high double-leg attempt. Masvidal comes alive at the 10-second mark, thumping Cruickshank’s body with a kick and then double-legging him to the ground.

TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Cruickshank

Round 2

Masvidal catches a side kick from Cruickshank, but it’s Cruickshank pulling the leg free and dumping “Gamebred” to the ground with a takedown. Masvidal stands and uses a guillotine to roll Cruickshank to the ground and onto his back. Masvidal stands and has to avoid upkicks from Cruickshank before diving back into the prone man’s guard with a punch to the body. Masvidal lands a few more body shots as Cruickshank works to tie him up from underneath. Masvidal frames up a brabo choke and rolls Cruickshank onto his side, squeezing for the finish. Cruickshank won’t tap, so Masvidal releases and blasts him in the face with a big elbow. More elbows score for Masvidal as he throws from Cruickshank’s open guard. Masvidal passes to half guard in the last minute and closes the round throwing elbows to Cruickshank’s head.

Sherdog Scores

Round 3

Masvidal steps forward on Cruickshank, picking with jabs while staying mindful of the taekwondo stylist’s kicks. Masvidal tries for a takedown and keeps Cruickshank against the cage for a minute, until Cruickshank decides to roll through and attempt to escape. Cruickshank winds up on his knees, then works back to his feet while Masvidal keeps hold of a leg and looks for another takedown. Cruickshank frees himself by threatening with a kimura, pushes forward and gets Masvidal to his knees with a double-leg attempt. Cruickshank tries to jump on Masvidal’s back but rides too high and gets shaken off, giving Masvidal top control with just under two minutes remaining. Masvidal leans left to right in Cruickshank’s half guard, maybe sizing up an arm-triangle choke. “Gamebred” releases the choke and shoves Cruickshank up against the fence with his left arm, using the right to repeatedly sock Cruickshank in the face. Cruickshank stands in the last 15 seconds and is held against the fence by Masvidal, who’s shooting on Cruickshank’s legs to the final horn.

Bobby Green vs. Josh Thomson

Round 1

Green backs Thomson toward the fence with a hard outside leg kick which draws a smile from “The Punk.” A right hand knocks Thomson off balance and briefly to the ground, but he pops back up to continue backpedaling. Green keeps walking after the AKA fighter, parrying punches with range-finding punches to Thomson’s body and kicks upstairs. Thomson sticks Green with a crisp right hand and circles off the fence. Green continues to press the action but isn’t letting his hands go, instead walking Thomson down while feinting and twitching. Thomson throws an overhand right and takes a finger to the eye from Green’s outstretched left hand. Thomson doesn’t want much time to recover, and the action resumes with 1:50 on the clock. Green lands an outside leg kick and slides backward to avoid five or six punches in quick succession. Thomson gets one back with a right hand in a quick clinch. Green keeps peppering Thomson’s lead leg with kicks in the last half minute of the round.

Green doesn’t fire back, instead choosing to slide away and mock Thomson’s inaccuracy. Green eats two straight right hands as he walks after Thomson with hands low. Halfway through the round, Green tells Thomson “let’s go” and begins cutting off Thomson’s angles. Green probes with a right hand to the breadbasket and backs up to dodge Thomson’s counter right. Inside the last minute, Thomson catches a kick and floors Green with a takedown. Green is back on his feet 10 seconds later to continue clowning. He walks after Thomson but gets pushed out of range with a front kick to the stomach in the waning seconds of the round.

Green catches Thomson with a leaping knee on the chin, but Thomson grabs the leg and goes for a takedown of his own. Green defends and pops Thomson with a few punches before circling away. Thomson catches Green with a straight left, a right hook and a knee to the midsection. Green goes hard for a single-leg on the fence, spinning Thomson to the ground for a split second. Thomson springs back up and hammers at the kneeling Green’s head with a couple right hands. Thomson is sporting damage around his right eye, dripping blood down onto his cheek. Clay Guida vs. Dennis Bermudez

Round 1

Bermudez connects with an early body kick and swipes Guida’s face with a right hand. He hits Guida with an outside leg kick as the featherweights circle and level-change around one another. Guida strikes back with a hook, takes another loud kick to the lead leg and grabs hold of Bermudez to try a single-leg takedown. Bermudez shoves him away and Guida resumes his circling until Bermudez catches up to him near the fence. Bermudez holds him in the clinch, separates with a knee. Guida smacks Bermudez with a lunging right hand and gets shut down on another takedown attempt. Bermudez puts a left hand behind Guida’s ear, but it’s Guida nearly taking Bermudez’s back in the ensuing scramble. Bermudez comes out on top, picks the ankle of Guida and then stands up to hold the Jackson-Wink fighter against the cage. Guida escapes, now with a bloody face, though his long hair makes it hard to tell where the blood is coming from. Bermudez gets into range again and abuses Guida with knees in the clinch before dumping the veteran to the ground. Bermudez takes back control, sinks his hooks and starts trying to secure a rear-naked choke. Guida peels his hands away and sits up with 30 seconds remaining, throwing punches over his shoulder which do nothing before switching to elbow Bermudez’s thigh.

Guida sticks a right hand on the charging Bermudez, who comes through it to shove “The Carpenter” against the cage. Guida reverses the position and holds Bermudez on the fence for a few seconds, but the featherweights soon separate. Guida lands a light leg kick and grazes Bermudez with a straight punch on the temple. Bermudez front-kicks him into the fence and drills him with another step-in knee. Bermudez catches Guida rushing inside, wraps him up and drags him to the ground. In a flash, Bermudez is on his back and sinking a rear-naked choke. He rolls Guida to the ground and tightens the RNC, forcing Guida to tap out.

The Official Result

Dennis Bermudez def. Clay Guida via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) R2 2:57

Anthony Johnson vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira

Round 1

Johnson lands the first hard shot of the contest 30 seconds in, a right hand on Nogueira’s ear that sends the Brazilian staggering. Johnson catches up with him near the fence and snaps back Nogueira’s head with a huge uppercut. More right-handed uppercuts follow as Nogueira clings to consciousness, finally slumping to the canvas after eating three or four big shots, and referee Herb Dean steps in to rescue the dazed “Minotouro” from further punishment.

The Official Result

Anthony Johnson def. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira via KO (Punches) R1 0:44

Robbie Lawler vs. Matt Brown

Round 1

Referee “Big” John McCarthy is the third man in the Octagon for tonight’s welterweight main event, with judges Mike Bell, Derek Cleary and Wade Vieira scoring at cageside. No touch of gloves between the fighters as Brown walks straight into a three-piece combination from Lawler. They tangle briefly as Brown shoots for a leg, but Lawler pushes him back out of the pocket. A left hand stings Brown, who resets and then steps back in to take another on the temple. Brown is moving awkwardly, getting into range with a high knee and then seemingly waiting for Lawler to throw. Lawler eats a right hook on the temple and grins wide as he backs up to return fire with a left. Brown steps in and now he finds his range with a level elbow and a knee to the body. Brown whips his man to the ground, where Lawler goes to his knees and Brown tries to set up a choke. Lawler creates some space and stands to shove Brown against the cage, then zaps “The Immortal” with a short left hand. Brown is bleeding between the eyes as he keeps the taller man pinned to the fence with just under two minutes to go in the opening round. Brown sneaks a short elbow over the top as the welterweights go back to hand- and head-fighting inside. Lawler backs up to connect with a left hand that doubles Brown over, allowing Lawler to follow up with a knee. Brown misses with a spinning back fist and nearly pays for it as Lawler misses with a huge hook. Brown goes to the body with a kick as the first round comes to a close.

Round 2

Brown tries to find Lawler with long right hands but appears hesitant to get to close to his fellow heavy hitter. Not much action through the first 90 seconds of round two, but now Brown puts a nice kick in Lawler’s breadbasket. Lawler checks a low kick and gets taken down near the fence, then explodes to his feet when Brown tries to take his back. Back to striking, Lawler hits Brown with a left hook and uses good head movement to slip Brown’s straight punches. A straight right momentarily slows Brown’s forward progress, but he hits Lawler with a spinning kick to the body a few seconds later. Lawler grins but has to back up as Brown keeps coming and connects with a standing elbow in close quarters. In the last 15 seconds, Lawler thumps the right side of Brown’s body with a hard kick, then has the next one go off the Ohioan’s forearm.

Round 3

Brown shoots a single-leg against the fence 10 seconds into the round. It’s defended well by Lawler, who stays standing and opens a cut near Brown’s right eye with some hard elbows. A hard kick to Brown’s liver side seems to hurt “The Immortal,” though he either recovers quickly or plays it off well. Lawler catches Brown stepping forward with a short right hook behind the ear. Halfway through the round and the bout, Brown picks at Lawler’s lead leg with some short kicks. Lawler launches a front kick at Brown’s body, but the kick lands on Brown’s arm. Brown says it landed below the belt; referee McCarthy believes him and gives him a minute to recover. Brown comes back throwing punches at Lawler’s body, while Lawler looks to land the front kick again but can’t find the target. Brown just manages to get a hand up and block a left high kick toward the end of the round.

Round 4

Lawler takes the center of the cage immediately, then catches a kick and trips Brown to the canvas. It’s half guard for Lawler, who looks to pass to Brown’s right side but instead gets pushed out to full guard. One minute into the round, Lawler gets back to half guard, but he’s not able to produce much offense as Brown plays defense from underneath. Brown gets to his feet with about 2:50 on the clock and is instantly tossed back down. Up comes Brown again, and Lawler stays in his face to counter a low kick with a lead uppercut. Brown shoots and quickly abandons the single-leg, and Lawler clips him with a right hand on the ear. Lawler is keeping Brown’s back to the fence, cutting off angles and seeking an opening for his left high kick. Brown circles off the fence inside the final minute and sends a kick off Lawler’s forearms.

Round 5

The welterweights come out firing to start the final round, Brown scoring with right straights and elbows over the top while Lawler strikes back with blistering left hooks. Brown seems to give up on the exchange first, backing up toward the fence and taking a kick to the gut as Lawler pushes forward to close the gap. Lawler holds his man on the fence for a few seconds and then backs out. Brown splits Lawler’s guard with a right cross, drives a hard knee to Lawler’s gut. Now it’s a kick from Brown landing to the left side of Lawler’s body, then a left hook to the right side. Brown goes body-head with a left-right combination, and suddenly Lawler is on the retreat. Brown shakes out his right hand after the exchange and now he’s backing up as Lawler delivers a nasty kick to the liver side. Brown hits Lawler with a standing elbow and glances up at the clock before snapping back Lawler’s head with a straight right. Lawler has a kick caught, so he spins around to free the leg and clips Brown with a spinning back fist in the process. Down to the final 45 seconds now, and Lawler moves a bloodied Brown toward the fence with a push kick to the body. Brown lunges forward with a reaching punch and eats an uppercut. He slips to the ground and gets kicked on the arm by Lawler, who allows him to stand just before the final horn.
