J.C. Cottrell will make his Octagon debut against Michel Richard Cunha dos Prazeres at UFC on Fox 20.
Promotion officials announced Tuesday that Cottrell will replace Tony Martin, who withdrew from the lightweight contest due to injury. UFC on Fox 20 takes place at the United Center in Chicago on July 23 and is headlined by a bantamweight showdown between Holly Holm and Valentina Shevchenko.
A native of Oklahoma City, Cottrell has competed for organizations such as Legacy Fighting Championship, Bellator MMA and King of the Cage while compiling a 17-3 mark. He enters his first promotional foray on a six-fight winning streak, including a decision triumph over Cody Walker in his last outing at Legacy FC 56.
Prazeres is 3-2 since joining the Las Vegas-based organization in 2013. He last appeared at UFC Fight Night 78 “Magny vs. Gastelum in November, earning a split verdict over Valmir Lazaro. “Trator” is 19-2 overall, with eight victories by way of submission.
