UFC on Fox 21 Weigh-in Results: Carlos Condit, Demian Maia Cleared to Clash

The Ultimate Fighting Championship will be bringing mixed martial arts fans another free event on Saturday as the Las Vegas-based promotion returns to the Great White North. UFC on Fox 21 will go down inside Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada; it’s the second time in UFC history that a free card on Fox will be held outside of the U.S.

In the main event, Carlos Condit will square off against Demian Maia in a pivotal welterweight showdown. Condit, a former World Extreme Cagefighting welterweight champ, is looking to bounce back from a split decision loss to then-champ Robbie Lawler in January in what remains one of the best fights of the year. Condit is desperate to get on a winning streak as his 2-4 overall record since 2012 and the two-time UFC title challenger was on point during Friday’s weigh-ins. “The Natural Born Killer” came in and officially weighed 170.5 pounds.

Maia, meanwhile, has looked sensational since dropping back-to-back fights to Jake Shields and Rory MacDonald. The Brazilian jiu jitsu wizard has won his last five and in his last outing, he subbed Matt Brown via rear-naked choke at UFC 198. A win over Condit would bring the former UFC middleweight title challenger one step closer to another shot at a championship and like his main event adversary, he was spot-on at the scale. Maia clocked in officially at 171 pounds, giving their duel the green light.

In the co-featured bout, former WEC and UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis will oppose Charles Oliveira. Pettis, who will be making his featherweight debut, is on the worst skid of his career, having lost his last three bouts. He needs to beat “do Bronx” in order to stay afloat in the spotlight and he passed the last hurdle on Friday, coming in at 146 pounds.

Oliveira has five of his last six and a win over someone the caliber of Pettis would do wonders for the Brazilian’s career. At the scales, he nailed it. Oliveira easily made the featherweight limit as he weighed in at 143 pounds.

UFC on Fox 21 will begin on UFC Fight pass with a trio of fights starting at 4:30 p.m. ET/1:30 p.m. PT. From there, the broadcast will switch over to Fox, which will air the rest of the card beginning at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT until the event’s conclusion.
