Undefeated Prospects Gambino, Sterling Victorious at CFFC 11
Joey
Gambino stepped into the cage for the main event of Cage Fury
Fighting Championships 11 with a 7-0 record. The Tristar Gym
145-pound prospect walked away with his undefeated record intact
after stopping Eddie Fyvie
at 3:51 in round two via technical knockout to walk away with the
CFFC featherweight title.
“I hit him with a hard elbow and I felt him go a little limp,” said Gambino. “He didn’t go unconscious but I knew it was time to go so I unleashed everything I had.”
The first round saw Gambino use his strength in what became a
grappling bout early. He parlayed his advantage into a toss that
won him the first round and paid dividends later on.
“I think I might have taken the wind out of him,” Gambino said of the slam. “I was using his force and it was a little bit of a mix of a judo throw. I powered him over, felt the momentum and felt I could toss him. I’m comfortable on the ground, knew he was a black belt. But the ground-and-pound is a big factor against a jiu-jitsu guy.”
The promotion’s bantamweight title was also on the line as Aljamain Sterling took on AMA Fight Club’s Sean Santella. Sterling kept his record unblemished and took Santella’s belt with scores of 50-45, 49-46, 49-46 after 25 minutes of action.
