It looks like another UFC veteran is planning on following in the footsteps of Anderson Silva by writing the final chapter of his career in the boxing ring.

Two years after signing with One Championship in 2019, 44-year-old former UFC champion Vitor Belfort has announced his desire to move to boxing. Belfort made his announcement during a media day on Tuesday in Las Vegas that was promoted by Floyd Mayweather. In a conversation with Brazilian journalist Diego Ribas from AgFight, “The Phenom” invited Oscar De La Hoya to be his opponent.

“I heard Oscar de la Hoya is looking for someone to face. Oscar, don't be afraid,” said Belfort, who claimed that his One contract would not be an issue. “Our contract is close to the end. We dont have any fight scheduled out there … But this is boxing, I´m free to fight boxing.”

Belfort also showed interest in a boxing match against rival Silva, who knocked him out in a title bout at UFC 126 in 2011, and will face Júlio César Chavez Jr. next month in Mexico.

“Me and Anderson would be a historical revenge [bout] under boxing rules,” Belfort said. “Actually it could be Oscar, Anderson or [Evander] Holyfield. There are a list of guys that could make it happen.”
