WSOF 31 Weigh-ins: Ivanov, Copeland Pass Final Hurdle for Heavyweight Title Tilt

By Mike Sloan Jun 16, 2016

World Series of Fighting 31 goes down Friday night from within the storied Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Conn., and in the main event, the Las Vegas-based promotion’s heavyweight champion will put his title on the line.

Blagoy Ivanov will look to defend his title against Josh Copeland over the course of five potential rounds. The 2008 Sambo World Champion and Bellator MMA veteran has won two in a row since suffering the first defeat of his pro MMA career and doesn’t expect to lose his title on Friday. The Bulgarian beast looked focused and ready during Thursday’s weigh-ins, coming in officially at 250 pounds. Copeland, a UFC veteran, clocked in at 248 pounds.

The WSOF 31 co-feature will see former Ultimate Fighting Championship, Dream and Strikeforce fighter Jason High taking on Mike Ricci, who also competed inside the Octagon, for the WSOF’s No. 1 ranking at lightweight. “The Martian” stepped to the scale and nailed it; Ricci came in at 155 pounds, though he had to strip down to his birthday suit behind a towel. High, meanwhile, officially checked in at the scale at 155 pounds as well.

WSOF 31 will be televised live on NBCSN starting at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
