World Series of Fighting welterweight titlist Steve Carl and challenger Rousimar Palhares successfully made weight Friday ahead of their championship headliner at WSOF 9.

Both men checked in at the 170-pound limit. WSOF 9 takes place Saturday night at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and airs live on NBCSN.

Carl will look to defend his belt for the first time since claiming it with a fourth-round choking of Josh Burkman at WSOF 6. The Bellator veteran rides a seven-fight winning streak, with all seven wins coming via submission.

Palhares’ WSOF debut marks his second appearance at welterweight. His first, a controversial submission victory against Mike Pierce last October, cost “Toquinho” his spot in the UFC when the Brazilian did not immediately release Pierce from the winning heel hook.

Saturday’s co-main event will see blue-chip prospect Marlon Moraes (135) vying for the vacant WSOF bantamweight title against Josh Rettinghouse (135). Also featured on the main card is former UFC middleweight contender Yushin Okami (185), who takes on Bulgarian import Svetlozar Savov (184.5).
