Josh Emmett maintained his foothold in the UFC’s featherweight division by the narrowest of margins on Saturday.

The Team Alpha Male product took a contentious split-decision triumph against Calvin Kattar in the UFC on ESPN 37 headliner at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas, his fifth consecutive victory at 145 pounds. While not everyone agreed with the scorecards, Emmett himself was convinced that he’d done more than enough to get the nod. By outdueling Kattar in a technical affair, the 37-year-old switches places with “The Boston Finisher” in Sherdog’s featherweight rankings, moving from eighth to seventh. He’ll undoubtedly be an interested observer when Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway square off with featherweight gold on the line for a third time next month.

Elsewhere, Damir Ismagulov extended his professional winning streak to 19 in a tension-filled split verdict over Guram Kutateladze at UFC on ESPN 37. The 31-year-old Russian looks like an opponent no one will want to face in the lightweight division in the coming months. As a result of his latest work, Ismagulov takes the No. 14 spot at 155 pounds.
