Pros Picks: UFC 241 ‘Cormier vs. Miocic 2’

Aug 15, 2019

The ordering process for Ultimate Fighting Championship pay-per-views has changed: UFC 241 is only available on ESPN+ in the U.S.

On Saturday night, in Anaheim, California, reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight titleholder Daniel Cormier will defend his strap for a second time at UFC 241. Standing across from “DC” will be Stipe Miocic, the former champion and record-holder for UFC heavyweight title defenses. It is a rematch 13 months in the making and a bout fighters from all corners of the industry have an opinion on.

The first meeting between the pair was historic for being the first occurrence of reigning light heavyweight and heavyweight champions facing off. With his victory over Miocic, Cormier secured a place in mixed martial arts lore as the second fighter to own championships in two divisions simultaneously. The rematch could be viewed as historic as well, but for different reasons. As a Miocic win would place him along side Randy Couture, Tim Sylvia and Cain Velasquez as the only fighters to be the undisputed UFC heavyweight champion on more than one occasion. For the current champion, this could very well be the last time the surefire UFC hall-of-famer competes inside the legendary Octagon.

In a nod to its past in pro picks features, Sherdog was able to get the thoughts of those in the know on how they see this historic UFC heavyweight matchup playing out. Willing opinions came from fighters such as former UFC flyweight champion, and current One Championship flyweight grand prix finalist Demetrious Johnson and many, many others.
