When atomweight titleholder Angela Lee returns under the One Championship banner, she will have several options in front of her. Option 1: rising talent Denice Zamboanga. Option 2: an attention-grabbing showdown with three-sport superstar Nong Stamp. However, Lee prefers Option 3: a rubber match with rival Jingnan Xiong—a woman against whom she has gone 1-1—and an opportunity to exorcise her demons as a strawweight.

“After my [rematch with Xiong] in October, I was like, ‘Let’s schedule the next one right now,’” Lee told Sherdog.com. “I was so pumped and fired up. Not to make excuses or anything, but my first match with Xiong, we had to postpone that. It was supposed to be in November of 2018 and got pushed to March 2019 because of my back. At the time, I didn’t realize how much an injury like that can really affect your performance, but it does, [and] I’m so stubborn as a fighter. I was just pushing it off. I didn’t do any physical therapy or anything. I just wanted to get back in as soon as possible. I kind of paid for that, but it was a good lesson. I really want to get after that strawweight division. I really want that strawweight belt, and I want to go down in history as one of the greatest, so that’s what I’ve got to do.”

In this exclusive interview with Sherdog, Lee discussed all the possibilities ahead, revealed how she stayed busy during the coronavirus pandemic and opened up about her battle with self-doubt ahead of the rematch with Xiong in October.
