In the opinion of several prolific oddsmakers, Calvin Kattar has a favorable matchup against Dan Ige on Wednesday morning in Abu Dhabi: Especially when compared to the betting lines for his two previous bouts against Jeremy Stephens and Zabit Magomedsharipov. However, don’t expect “The Boston Finisher” to proclaim his UFC on ESPN 13 main event an easier one. In his mind, Ige is a fighter akin to himself in being often overlooked and underestimated.
“That’s the problem. I think a lot of people overlook Dan,” Kattar told Sherdog. “I think a lot of people have overlooked me in my career [too]. We’re similar in that fact. No one expected us to be here in the main event, and here we are. We’ve got a lot to prove. Two young, hungry, up and coming competitors. It makes for a great fight, and come Wednesday night, I’ll show why I’m the better fighter.”
In his conversation with Sherdog, the No. 6 ranked Ultimate Fighting Championship featherweight spoke in-depth about his matchup with Ige and if being paired up with a lower-ranked foe is a risk. Kattar also spoke on if a matchup with division superstar Max Holloway is something he hopes for in the near future.
