Professional Fighters League featherweight contender Brendan Loughnane expects 2021 to be his year.

A few days ago, the PFL announced that Loughnane (19-3, 2-0 PFL) would lock horns with Ultimate Fighting Championship vet Sheymon Moraes on the first card in the 2021 Season. Both contenders will attempt to dethrone 2018 and 2019 145-pound tournament champion Lance Palmer by the end of the campaign. While talking with Sherdog, the Englishman revealed that he likes the matchup for his first fight in this year’s Regular Season. In Loughnane’s opinion, fans will witness a great show once he and his opponent’s aggressive fighting styles collide inside the cage.

“To be honest, he might be the biggest name at featherweight,” he added. “He’s got the most name value in that division. He’s actually performed in the UFC for years. Everybody knows his name. In terms of name value, he brings a lot to the table. He’s a striker like me. When it got announced, a lot of people were like, ‘Oh s**t, that’s a great fight!’ Fans are excited for it, I’m excited for it, and I’m sure Sheymon is the same, let’s do it.”

The Dana White’s Contender Series alum also confessed that he had no financial troubles in the past year, even if he had to sit more than 12 months on the sidelines due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation.

“I’ve been very lucky with making spare investments,” he said. “I’ve made quite a lot of money out of PFL before the lockdown, I’ve invested that well, and I’ve also picked one or two very, very good sponsors that helped me carry it through. Things have been OK for me, to be honest. I live an easy life, I train all day, I don’t buy expensive things, I don’t do expensive things, I just train. I live a pretty cheap lifestyle.”

Loughnane has rattled off five consecutive victories. In his PFL foray, he first upended Matt Wagy at PFL 7 before outpointing David Alex Duarte during the 2019 Season PFL Championships on Dec. 31, 2019.
