Regian Eersel Is Committed to Kickboxing, But Open to MMA

Regian Eersel wants to become a one-man striking dynasty in One Championship, but he's also aware of some of the other proving grounds his promotion has to offer.

Eersel is currently the man to beat in the ONE kickboxing and muay thai 170-pound division. “The Immortal” has recently captured the inaugural muay thai 170-pound championship after edging Sinsamut Klinmee by split decision at ONE on Prime Video 3. In victory, the Surinamese-Dutch fighter became a two-discipline titleholder as he is also the current kingpin of the ONE kickboxing lightweight division. In a recent interview with Sherdog, Eersel confessed he wants to go down as one of the greatest kickboxers ever and his only focus right now is defending the kickboxing championship at least 10 times. However, he doesn’t exclude a return to muay thai and also leaves the door open for an exceptional mixed martial arts test if the right offer comes.

“I'm gonna defend my two belts now. For kickboxing, my goal is to defend it 10 times. For the muay thai belt, I really don't know yet. The first goal was to win it, of course, and I did it. Now, I have to think about what I'm going to do. I’ll probably defend it. We'll see what the future brings, you know? My main goal is to defend my kickboxing title 10 times, and for the muay thai, we'll see what One Championship is going to do. I leave it up to One Championship.”
