The Coronavirus Chronicles: Eduard Folayang
Former One Championship lightweight titleholder Eduard Folayang has emerged as a sports superstar in the Philippines—a nation still viewed as an impoverished country that is ill-equipped to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. He expects difficult times ahead and understands many of his countrymen will be forced into serious hardships.
“It will happen, especially since we are a third-world country,” Folayang told Sherdog.com. “There are a lot of us here in the Philippines, and already you can feel there is a lot of panic-buying and tension, especially for the poor people. It’s very hard for them because what do they have? They can just spend everything [trying to survive]. We’re hoping that [the government] will be able to have a good solution in the shortest possible time.”
In this exclusive interview with Sherdog, Folayang discusses living under a nationwide lockdown, the idea of frequenting other gyms for different instruction and the lessons he learned from his contentious January loss to Pieter Buist.
