The Coronavirus Chronicles: Pauline Macias

Legacy Fighting Alliance strawweight Pauline Macias is the epitome of a blue-chip mixed martial arts prospect. She is a multi-time United States judo national champion and was a teammate of former and current MMA champions Ronda Rousey and Kayla Harrison. With that sort of pedigree, it’s no surprise then that she was competing in LFA by her second professional fight. With four pro bouts under her belt, it’s even less surprising that she believes it won’t be long before she next follows other LFA alumnus into the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

“If I’m not in the UFC in less than [two-years] I’d be disappointed,” Macias told Sherdog. “Right now, it’s really weird with the whole coronavirus thing. Nobody know when fights are going to come on again. And what about the regional scene? So, I guess that plays a big factor. Prior to this, I was planning on being active. Like, I fought [Feb. 21], I was planning April 3, then I was going to fight again or possibly [compete on] Dana White’s Contender Series. I wanted things to go fast. Right now, I don’t know a timetable, but I know I’m ready.”

In her conversation with Sherdog, Macias spoke on being grateful that she was able to compete shortly before the coronavirus pandemic postponed events throughout the industry. She also talked about why she had been inactive from May of last year up until February, as well as switching gyms and working at Factory X under coach Marc Montoya.
