The first journalist exclusively dedicated to vale tudo and jiu-jitsu in Brazil, Marcelo Alonso left behind his career as the chief of a microbiology laboratory in 1992 to discover his true vocation.
After starting out as a correspondent for Rio de Janeiro's Kiai, Alonso moved on to landmark Brazilian periodical Tatame. In 1994, he become the news magazine's editor, a position he held for the next 15 years. In 2009, Alonso left Tatame to join Sherdog contributor Gleidson Venga at Portal do Vale Tudo, the largest MMA site in Brazil.
In addition to his work for Sherdog and PVT, Alonso's words and pictures have appeared in Britain's Fighters Only, Japan's Kakutogi Tsushin, America's Full Contact Fighter and more. Alonso also hosts interview program Cara a Cara on Brazilian sports cable network Combate.
