Miguel Vazquez to Fight Argenis Mendez on PBC on FS1 Oct. 6

Guadalajara’s Miguel Vazquez held the IBF lightweight title for four years after he toppled Jo-Hoon Kim back in August 2010 via decision. He defended the belt six times against solid contenders before losing it to Mickey Bey via split decision last September.

Vazquez (35-4, 13 KOs) wants it back, and he already took a step toward that goal when he decisioned Jerry Belmontes in March. Next up for “Titere” is Argenis Mendez, who he’ll fight in the co-main event of Premier Boxing Champions’ Toe-To-Toe Tuesdays on Fox Sports 1 on Oct. 6.

Mendez (22-3-1, 12 KOs) is a former champion as well. The Dominican Republic native held the IBF junior lightweight title for a little over a year before losing it to Rances Barthelemy last July. He last fought in February, where he stopped Daniel Evangelista Jr. in the sixth and, like Vazquez, is determined to capture another world title.

The PBC on FS1 card is headlined by power-punching super middleweight Julius Jackson (19-0, 15 KOs) taking on Jose Uzcategui (23-1, 19 KOs) in a 12-rounder. Uzcategui is expected to be the stiffest test for young Jackson thus far into his career.

The main undercard will feature the following bouts: Ryan Karl (8-0, 6 KOs) versus Alfonso Olvera (4-1, 2 KOs) in six rounds of welterweight action; Stephen Lovett (13-0, 11 KOs) takes on Dustin Echard (11-1, 8 KOs) in an eight-round light heavyweight affair; Justin DeLoach (11-1, 6 KOs) in a six-round super welterweight contest; Tony Adeniran (1-0) against Baton Rouge's Jonathan Heard (0-1) in a four-round middleweight bout; Cresencio Ramos (4-0, 3 KOs) versus Cesar Martinez (0-6-3) in a four round featherweight contest; James Leija Jr. (1-0) taking on L.D. Herbert (0-4) in a four round junior welterweight showdown; Rickey Edwards (8-0, 3 KOs) in a six round junior welterweight fight against an opponent to be named.

The card will be held at the Cowboys Dance Hall in San Antonio, Texas and will be televised live on both Fox Sports 1 and Fox Deportes starting at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
