  • Podcast: UFC 170's Pat Cummins, Cody Gibson By: Sherdog.com Staff

TJ De Santis and Jeff Sherwood were back on “Beatdown” today on the Sherdog Radio Network. With UFC 170 coming up this Saturday night De Santis and Jeff turned their attention to the card that features a women’s bantamweight championship main event between Ronda Rousey and Sara McMann. Joining them on the broadcast was were UFC new comers Pat Cummins and Cody Gibson.

The top of the UFC 170 card is headlined by Ronda Rousey and Sarah McMann. However, the co-main event has gained a lot of steam over the last week. Originally slated to compliment Rousey-McMann was an intriguing 205-pound affair with Rashad Evans taking on Daniel Cormier. Following an Evans knee injury it looked like Cormier would be tabling his light-heavyweight debut for another day. That was until Pat Cummins entered the fold. The 4-0 mixed martial arts and former Penn State Nittany Lion made waves calling out “DC” and sharing a story where he claims that he made the Olympian cry on the wrestling mat. Cummins, a relatively Unknown Fighter a week ago, has not only put his name on the map but has angered his opponent in a big way. Cummins joins “Beatdown” to talk about the last few days and how it is all leading up to his octagon debut Saturday night in Las Vegas.

Cummins is not the only fighter making their UFC debut on short notice at UFC 170. Bantamweight Cody Gibson has answered the call on two weeks notice to face Aljamain Sterling. “The Renegade” joined the program to discuss his road to the UFC, how he is handling the rushed training camp, and what he knows about the Serra-Longo trained Sterling.

Joseph Benavidez joined “Beatdown” as well Monday to talk about the latest at Team Alpha Male as well as his April tilt with Tim Elliott on Baltimore’s UFC 172 card.

TJ and Jeff also recap the UFC Fight Night 36 card which saw Brazilians Lyoto Machida, Ronaldo Souza, and Erik Silva earn main card victories Saturday night. De Santis and Jeff discuss possible middleweight title shots for Machida and “Jacare” and if either of their performances hindered them despite getting victories. The guys also take listener calls, emails and tweets.
