Tim Boetsch: I Have to Finish Hector Lombard
By: Sherdog.com Staff
Tim Boetsch, on “The Jordan Breen Show,” discussing what it will take to improve his chances of getting a middleweight title shot:
“I think the key is taking out Hector [Lombard] in impressive fashion. I don’t think anybody expected [Chris] Weidman to maul on [Mark] Munoz like he did, but he did himself a big favor by putting on an impressive performance. Absolutely that’s what I need to do. I need to take out Hector and really get people talking about how I do it. I’ve got to be exciting and I’ve got to finish him. That’s what I have in my mind.”

Lombard Expected Shlemenko Rematch, Promises to Finish

Hector Lombard was not surprised by outcome of the welterweight tournament final between Alexander Shlemenko and Vitor Vianna at Bellator 57. A few days prior to the bout, the Bellator Fighting Championships middleweight title holder told Sherdog.com he expected Shlemenko to get the victory.
“Styles make fights, and I believe Vianna doesn’t have the tools to beat Shlemenko,” he said.
The Russian striker did not disappoint, earning a unanimous decision over Vianna to become the promotion’s second two-time tournament champion. The win sets up a rematch of a Bellator 34 title fight between Lombard and Shlemenko. Read more -
Noke Draw Still Stings for Streaking Lombard
By: Tristen Critchfield
Hector Lombard has won 19 fights in a row. | Photo: Keith Mills
Hector Lombard’s 19-fight tear is impressive, but his overall unbeaten streak stretches to 24 bouts when you include his draw with Kyle Noke at Cage Fighting Championships 1 in Sydney, Australia, in 2007.
With so few blemishes on his career record, it is not surprising that the Bellator Fighting Championships middleweight titleholder still remembers his three-round stalemate with Noke. While Noke has gone on to become a cast member of “The Ultimate Fighter 11” and compiled a 3-1 mark in the UFC, Lombard still contends his hand should have been raised at the conclusion of their encounter.
“I won that fight. In any other kind of situation, it would have been over in the first round, because he basically got saved by the bell,” Lombard told Sherdog.com. “Basically, it was 10-7 [in] the first round. He was beat up. The second round, I still won.”
The judo black belt was not with American Top Team at the time, and he believes the lack of a true camp played a role in his not being able to finish with a flourish.
“The third round, I lost; my preparation wasn’t great,” said Lombard, who faces Trevor Prangley in a non-title bout at Bellator 58 on Saturday in Hollywood, Fla. “I was living in Australia at the time. I didn’t have any place to train. Kyle Noke was training at Jackson’s [Mixed Martial Arts] at the time, so he came out more prepared. Honestly, I gassed at the end of the round, but I won the fight.” Read more -
Masvidal: If Lombard Doesn’t Like You, Look Out
By: Sherdog.com Staff
Jorge Masvidal, on “The Savage Dog Show,” discussing teammate Hector Lombard (Pictured):

“Hector’s a specimen. He’s just a special type of athlete. … A lot of people don’t like Hector because of the way he is. He’ll tell you. If he doesn’t like you or if he doesn’t like something about you, he’s going to tell you. So he comes off wrong to a lot of people, but that’s just him. He just tells you like, ‘I don’t like you, man, and I’m going to mess you up in practice today.’ He does that. A lot of people don’t like that, but he’s a specimen. Anybody will tell you, even if they don’t like him, the guy is gifted. He has speed and power for his size and he’s got a crazy gas tank as well to go along with it. It’s awesome to have a [teammate] like that.” -
