  • Sherdog Exclusive: Supremacy MMA Trailer By: Mike Whitman

In the last two years, both EA Sports’ “MMA” and THQ’s “UFC Undisputed” video game series have offered MMA fans realistic, simulation-based titles featuring modern-day, regulated mixed martial arts.

“Supremacy MMA” takes a different approach. Developed by Kung Fu Factory and distributed by 505 Games, “Supremacy MMA” combines arcade-style game play coupled with over-the-top brutality. Rated “Mature” by the ESRB for the blood, violence, partial nudity, sexual themes, strong language and use of drugs, the game allows players to compete in fast-paced, hyperbolic vale tudo.

Due to the unregulated nature of the in-game matches, a variety of maneuvers may be executed outside the jurisdiction of the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts. As exhibited in the game's new trailer -- seen here one day prior to the worldwide release -- players will be equipped with a true, “anything goes” toolbox of techniques. Limbs are graphically snapped and blood flows freely as players use punches, kicks, stomps, headbutts and slams to batter opponents into submission.

Digital combatants will not scrap under the bright lights of a popular Las Vegas venue, nor will their fights be shown to a massive audience on pay-per-view. Instead, fights take place in underground locations like prisons and dive bars in front of smaller, seedier crowds.

“Supremacy MMA” will also feature a handful of real-life mixed martial artists, including the UFC’s inaugural lightweight champion, Jens Pulver. In addition to “Little Evil,” gamers can control former K-1 World Grand Prix finalist Jerome Le Banner and Strikeforce heavyweight Shane del Rosario, who will be available to gamers who pre-order the title at GameStop. “Supremacy MMA” will also include a pair of up-and-coming female talents -- a first for MMA games -- as players may fight as both Felice Herrig and Michele Gutierrez.

“Supremacy MMA” hits shelves Sept. 20 for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 and will retail for $59.99. The game will also be available on handheld console Playstation Vita for the holiday season.

  • Jens Pulver’s MMA Fight Pit Blog: Part 4

Former UFC lightweight champion and WEC featherweight title contender Jens Pulver will blog his thoughts and experiences leading up to his MMA Fight Pit “Genesis” showdown with Coty Wheeler for Sherdog.com readers.

This will be my last blog for Sherdog before my fight with “Ox” Wheeler on Saturday in Albuquerque, N.M. Outside of some last-minute preparation, I’m ready to go. I’ve been in New Mexico since Tuesday, and I’m ready to fight. In some ways, this is the hardest time for a fighter. You do training camps, and they can be very difficult; no question about it. Cutting weight to get to bantamweight -- man, it sucks sometimes. But now all the training is done, all the physical preparation is done, so it’s just weight-cutting and waiting. It’s like all of this is you paying the price for actually getting to step into the cage. Getting in there and letting it go is my reward for not eating what I want, for pushing past the fatigue wall, for doing media when I don’t feel like it. It all gets paid back when I get to actually step in the cage and put the training to use.

As I mentioned, weigh-cutting is not the most fun thing you do as a fighter. To make weight, you have to be very careful with your diet. You have to drink the right amount of fluids. You have to know when to hit the sauna. There are a lot of factors involved. You definitely don’t want to overdo it to the point where the fight ends up being against your own body rather than your opponent. Fighting as long I have, I’ve got my system down. My weight is where I want it to be, and I don’t foresee any problems making weight at all. However, I have to be aware of a different element to this fight.

Former UFC lightweight champion and WEC featherweight title contender Jens Pulver will blog his thoughts and experiences leading up to his MMA Fight Pit “Genesis” showdown with Coty Wheeler for Sherdog.com readers.

Here we go; it’s fight week. On Saturday, all the training, all the sacrifice, everything comes to a head when I step into the cage against Coty “Ox” Wheeler at MMA Fight Pit “Genesis” in Albuquerque, N.M. I’ve worked as hard as I can to prepare for a fight in this one, and I’m excited to see it all pay off.

Before I get in there, there is so much going on. It’s a busy week. Earlier today, I did a shoot with G4 TV for “Attack of the Show,” which is supposed to air on Thursday. After that, I had some training, and now, I’m going to spend time with my family before I fly out to New Mexico first thing tomorrow morning. The most important part of my day is definitely spending some time with my family. It is always tough to be away from my kids, so I always make sure I get some time in with them before I take off for a fight.

I’ve been doing a lot of interviews leading up to this scrap, and that will continue this week. Since this is a pay-per-view event, I’ve got to do some shoots in New Mexico tomorrow with the video crew. On Wednesday, there’s a media conference call and then open media workouts. We’ve also got the weigh-ins on Friday, and from what I hear, the promotion is trying to arrange for some of the fighters to visit wounded soldiers at a local military base in Albuquerque. I’d love to be a part of that.

Sometimes, younger guys and gals getting into MMA don’t realize there is so much more to being a professional fighter than what happens in the cage. Being a professional athlete means you’ll be doing interviews, making appearances and traveling a lot. And it’s all part of the game. As nice as it would be if it wasn’t the case, you simply can’t escape these kinds of responsibilities. Some of it can be fun, but it’s difficult to balance it all.

On Aug. 13 in Albuquerque, N.M., I will have the 41st professional MMA bout of my career, at least according to website databases. As I mentioned in my first blog, the guy I’m fighting is named “Ox” Wheeler. Outside of the fact that we both fought in the WEC, we don’t really share much in common. I don’t know a ton about him, but I do know that he’s a tough, tough fighter. I also know he can throw punches and submit guys. With his being more of a grappler, I think most are expecting the fight to end up on the ground, and that’s where I know I can surprise.

People have asked me if I feel pressure going into the fight. I have to go out there and represent the Team Curran camp. I’m new to the group, but this is what these guys do, and I can’t just keep getting caught in submissions. I have to learn. I mean, I’m rolling with some of the best people in the sport on the ground. I do it in practice, but, as I wrote in my first blog, what I do in the cage matters. That’s why I’m so glad I have this opportunity against a submission guy like Wheeler. I’m more than happy to go out there and keep going for it. I want to go out there and show people that I can grapple. I’ve beaten guys with submissions, and I feel like I’m in the right place now to show I can get it done, not just in practice but in the fight itself.

Before I get into this, there’s something you need to know about me: my mind is usually going a thousand different directions at once. I thought that as I got older that would probably change. I’m 35 now and -- nope, at least not so far. So when I write these blogs, keep that in mind. You’re probably going to read a lot about a lot of different things. I’m going to do my best to rein in my writing. We’ll see how it goes.

My next fight is a little less than two weeks away. It’s with a new promotion called MMA Fight Pit, which is running its first show on Aug. 13 in Albuquerque, N.M.

  • Weekend Rundown: Pulver, Beebe Earn Wins Outside Chicago By: Chris Nelson

Following a miserable two-year stretch, Jens Pulver has started 2011 off on the right foot -- sort of.

The onetime UFC lightweight champion took a three-round split decision over Wade Choate in the main event of Chicago Cagefighting Championship 3 on Saturday, reportedly breaking his left foot in the process. The show went down at The Odeum in the Chicago suburb of Villa Park, Ill.

Pulver, 36, came close to finishing his opponent with punches in the opening frame. Choate survived, however, and gave the smaller and seemingly tentative “Little Evil” trouble with range in the second and third rounds.

In the end, scorecards of 29-28, 29-28 and 28-29 gave Pulver the narrow decision, after which the Washington native revealed that he had injured his foot -- by then discolored and grotesquely swollen -- in the first five minutes of the bout. The win was Pulver’s second in a row, his first such stretch since April 2006.
