Light Heavyweights

Alonzo Menifield (11-3, 4-3 UFC) vs. Askar Mozharov (19-12, 0-0 UFC)

Menifield has settled into a solid enough spot in the light heavyweight division and still has the potential to move up the ranks a bit more. After earning a contract via Dana White’s Contender Series with an eight-second knockout in 2018, “Atomic Alonzo” further established himself as a knockout artist at the start of his UFC career, finishing Vinicius Moreira and Paul Craig within minutes. However, the issue has been what comes afterwards. It is not that Menifield is a glass cannon, but rather that he does not have much in the way of change-ups to his approach. If an opponent can stand up to Menifield’s early power, it then becomes a relatively even fight where he is unable to take his counterpart by surprise. It was a nice bit of business when Menifield put together a decision win over Ed Herman in August, but he gave up some of those gains with a loss to William Knight in December. He will look to rebound against an organizational newcomer who is consistent in his own way. It is rare that any of Mozharov’s fights make it out of the first round. With a tall and muscular frame, everything Mozharov does is in pursuit of the finish, though his aggressive approach means he is just as open to getting finished himself. There is a chance that he can overwhelm Menifield, but the Saekson Muay Thai product seems durable enough to weather any early trouble and find a finish either on the feet or the mat. The pick is Menifield via first-round knockout.
