11 Fights Signed for ‘Cruz vs. Faber 2’
Brian Knapp May 20, 2011
“The Ultimate Fighter” Season 9 finalist Andre
Winner will meet
WEC import Anthony
Njokuani (Pictured; file photo) in a preliminary lightweight
matchup at UFC
132 “Cruz vs. Faber 2” on July 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena
in Las Vegas. Eleven fights are now official for the event, which
will air live on pay-per-view.
Winner (11-5-1, 2-3 UFC) will enter the cage on a two-fight losing streak, his place in the UFC perhaps at stake. The 29-year-old Team Rough House representative last appeared at UFC 122 in November, when he succumbed to a first-round rear-naked choke from Dennis Siver at the Konig Pilsener Arena in Oberhausen, Germany.
Spawned by the Janjira Muay Thai camp, Njokuani (13-5-1, 1 NC, 0-1
UFC) has lost three of his last four fights. The 31-year-old
Nigerian-born lightweight made his promotional debut at UFC 128 in
March, dropping a unanimous decision to unbeaten prospect Edson
Mendes Barboza Jr. at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. A
potent standup fighter, Njokuani has secured more than half (eight)
of his 13 professional victories by knockout or technical knockout.
Wins over former
International Fight League cornerstone Chris
Horodecki, fellow WEC import Bart
Palaszewski and EliteXC
veteran Muhsin
Corbbrey anchor his resume.
A bantamweight title bout pairing champion Dominick Cruz with Urijah Faber will headline UFC 132. The event will also feature a showdown pitting former 205-pound kingpin Tito Ortiz against “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 8 winner Ryan Bader, a middleweight battle matching Brazilian icon Wanderlei Silva with Chris Leben and a key welterweight tilt between former WEC champion Carlos Condit against the unbeaten Dong Hyun Kim.
