J.P. Cole vs. George Pacurariu

Round 1

(+ Enlarge) | Photo: Dave Mandel/Sherdog.com

Pacurariu submitted Cole quickly.
Cole opens the bout with a few low kicks, tries to go to the body and misses. Pacurariu steps into the pocket to deliver a short right hook and a low kick, then backs out. Cole checks a low kick and winds up to give Pacurariu a hard chop to the lead leg in return. Pacurariu lands a solid left hook, a right hand to the body and a stiff jab. After absorbing another body shot, Cole opts to clinch up, but it’s Pacurariu reversing the throw and landing in side control on Cole’s right.

Pacurariu has Cole’s head and arm isolated in scarf hold, and when he cranks the right arm between his legs, he forces Cole to tap to the straight armbar.

The Result

George Pacurariu def. J.P. Cole via Submission (Straight Armbar) R1 2:59

Klayton Mai vs. Xavier Siller

Round 1

(+ Enlarge) | Photo: D. Mandel/Sherdog.com

Mai hit a neck crank on Siller.
Mai puts a jab in Siller’s breadbasket just before Siller changes levels and lifts Mai for a takedown. While in the air, Mai begins fishing for a guillotine, and the choke appears to get tighter after Siller slams his man to the canvas. Mai is cranking the arm-in guillotine, working for the finish, but after 20 seconds without a tap from Siller, Mai gives it up and explodes back to his feet. Now it’s Mai shooting for Siller’s legs and easily taking him to the mat. Mai tries to stack him up and break the posture, but Siller keeps his guard closed and wraps up Mai’s arms from underneath.

Standing up momentarily in Siller’s guard, Mai lands a hard left hand, then comes back down to deliver a couple shoulder shrugs. Siller swings his legs around to try an armbar, but Mai stands up and frees the limb. When Mai comes back to the ground, Siller goes to his knees and turtles up as Mai drops ground-and-pound. With Siller in a defensive shell, Mai jumps on his back, applies a quick neck crank and rolls him over to get the tap.

The Result

Klayton Mai def. Xavier Siller via Submission (Neck Crank) R1 3:55

Stephen Banaszak vs. Brad Mitchell

Round 1

(+ Enlarge) | Photo: D. Mandel/Sherdog.com

Banaszak racked up an omoplata on Mitchell.
After a few quick kicks to the lead leg and body, Banaszak pulls the Thai clinch and hits Mitchell with a high knee. Mitchell uses double underhooks to lift Banaszak into the air and escape the clinch. Banaszak has a kick caught and goes to the ground as he tries to use the other leg to kick Mitchell. The sequence repeats twice more in the opening 90 seconds, each time with Mitchell allowing Banaszak to stand back up. Mitchell backs Banaszak toward the fence, then catches Banaszak in a guillotine when he shoots for a takedown.

Banaszak escapes and goes back to leg-kicking, while Mitchell -- bleeding from his nose -- continues to work from the center. Mitchell slips throwing a kick and Banaszak tries a guillotine of his own. Banaszak jumps guard, can’t get Mitchell to the ground and stands up to be pressed against the fence by Mitchell with about 90 seconds on the clock. Banaszak reverses, escapes and slips throwing another kick. Mitchell allows him to stand again, and the fighters spend the final minute of the round working around the edge of the cage. Banaszak hits a trip takedown late and catches Mitchell with a few knees in the clinch just before the bell.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Banaszak
Sam Genovese scores the round 10-9 Banaszak
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Banaszak

Round 2

Banaszak catches Mitchell with a front kick to the chin, but Mitchell keeps pressing forward to land a hard kick to the body. Mitchell ducks under a spinning back fist, gets tripped to the ground by Banaszak, but both men scramble back up. Mitchell catches Banaszak with his back to the fence and lands a hard right hand in a three-piece combo. Banaszak continues to slip to the ground when throwing spinning kicks, and Mitchell continues to let him get back to his feet. Banaszak tries to jump guard again, this time looking for a flying triangle. Mitchell slips out of the triangle with ease, but Banaszak uses an omoplata to sweep to top position and now looks to be in position to take the kneeling Mitchell’s back. Instead, Banaszak puts pressure on the wrist of the omoplata’d arm and gets Mitchell to tap.

The Result

Stephen Banaszak def. Brad Mitchell via Submission (Omoplata) R2 2:51

Neal Ewing vs. Logan Nail

Round 1

Ewing comes out swinging and backs up Nail by bombing with head-down overhand rights. When the middleweights get near the fence, Ewing drops levels and puts Nail on the ground. Nail closes his guard around Ewing, who buries his head in his Nail’s chest and thumps his ribs with punches. Midway through the round, there’s not a ton of action on the ground as Ewing tries to create some space and strike while Nail wraps up from underneath. Referee Kerry Hatley calls for action, then stands up the fighters with 1:45 on the clock. Nail grabs the Thai clinch and delivers two or three hard knees to Ewing’s body, then a level elbow upstairs on the release. Ewing gets another takedown and postures up in Nail’s guard to spend the final 30 seconds with middling ground-and-pound.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Ewing
Sam Genovese scores the round 10-9 Ewing
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Ewing

Round 2

(+ Enlarge) | Photo: D. Mandel/Sherdog.com

Ewing decisioned Nail.
Nail catches Ewing with an uppercut as the latter works his way inside, but Ewing nonetheless gets hold of Nail’s legs and hits another takedown. Nail hip-bumps and sweeps to top position, but only for a moment as Ewing sweeps right back. Another sweep from Nail finds the fighters scooting toward the fence; once there, Ewing posts and stands up. Ewing grabs hold of Nail’s right leg and works for a single against the cage with three minutes left in the round. This time, Nail defends and stays standing to drill the side of Ewing’s head with elbows. Ewing finally drags Nail to his knees around the two-minute warning, but Nail keeps the elbows coming.

Ewing turns Nail away from the fence and is finally able to flatten him out on the ground. Working from Nail’s half guard, Ewing drops a couple hard elbow strikes to the face. Ewing closes out the round hitting Nail’s body with punches and elbows, along with some forearm face grinding.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Ewing
Sam Genovese scores the round 10-9 Ewing
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Ewing

Round 3

Nail gets the Thai plum again and hits Ewing with a knee to the body, a left hand upstairs. Ewing slips out and puts Nail against the fence with another single-leg takedown attempt, but same as last round, Nail is able to fend it off. Referee Hatley splits the fighters quickly this time, and rightly so. Nail is able to pop Ewing with a pair of punches before he’s shoved against the cage and taken down again. As Nail continually tries to push off the cage -- drawing a few warnings from the ref to mind his toes -- Ewing remains heavy on the side, grinding with short ground-and-pound, mostly elbows to the body.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Ewing (30-27 Ewing)
Sam Genovese scores the round 10-9 Ewing (30-27 Ewing)
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Ewing (30-27 Ewing)

The Result

Neal Ewing def. Logan Nail via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) R3 5:00

Sean Holden vs. Tim Roman

Round 1

Roman grabs hold of Holden to clinch, but it’s Holden landing hard punches as the welterweights collide. Holden changes levels as they reach the fence and begins working for a takedown, absorbing a few elbows in the process. Referee Jason Herzog warns Roman not to elbow Holden in the back of the head. A little more than one minute into the fight, Holden gets the takedown and moves straight to side control. He loops his right arm around Roman’s head and cranks on a topside guillotine, but Roman gives Herzog a thumbs-up and then escapes. Roman drives forward to hit a takedown, then tries a guillotine of his own. Holden sits up and drives forward, and now he’s back on top in side control. Holden almost gets full mount, gets bucked back to Roman’s half guard. Holden wants another guillotine but Roman is too active underneath, sitting up to make the headlock useless. Holden instead blasts Roman with elbows to the head, and now he receives a warning from the referee about strikes to the back of the head. Roman sits up, so Holden starts punching the body instead and then stands up. When Roman rolls to his knees and tries to stand, Holden jumps on his back and starts working for a rear-naked choke or neck crank, but Roman is saved by the bell.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Holden
Sam Genovese scores the round 10-9 Holden
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Holden

Round 2

(+ Enlarge) | Photo: D. Mandel/Sherdog.com

Holden outpointed Roman on the cards.
Holden gets another quick takedown and goes back to elbowing Roman’s face, then moves to side control when Roman tries a guillotine from underneath. With Roman sitting up against the fence, Holden stands and briefly considers a guillotine. Roman puts his back on the ground and Holden starts grinding on his face with a forearm. Holden steps over to full mount for a few seconds before Roman escapes. Holden slowly works back to mount and tries another guillotine, and this one looks tight. Roman bumps and sweeps to top position, and Holden keeps cranking the choke.

Roman is able to slip his head loose and winds up in Holden’s guard, finishing the round with a few hard hammer fists to Holden’s face.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Holden
Sam Genovese scores the round 10-9 Holden
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Holden

Round 3

Holden brings Roman back to the ground in short order, and this time Holden is able to score with some hard forearm and elbow strikes which leave Roman bloody. Roman is trying to wall-walk but can’t escape from Holden’s heavy pressure from cross-side control. Holden switches from face strikes to body blows, then works to advance to full mount again. From the bottom, Roman throws a few elbows to the body of Holden, who gets to mount with 30 seconds left in the fight. Roman kicks off the cage, can’t escape, and now Holden is unloading with punches, trying to finish Roman before the final bell. Holden is unable to get the finish, and when referee Herzog gets between the fighters at the end of the bout, Holden shoves him away to jump back to his feet. Holden immediately comes back to apologize to the official for what seemed to be an honest mistake due to overexcitement.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Holden (30-27 Holden)
Sam Genovese scores the round 10-9 Holden (30-27 Holden)
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Holden (30-27 Holden)

Alejandro Villalobos vs. Emmanuel Sanchez

Round 1

Villalobos opens with a few low kicks, while Sanchez is looking to bomb over the top with heavy right hands. Sanchez catches his man stepping into the pocket with a short left hook, then pops him with a straight right. Villalobos answers with an uppercut to the body and a left upstairs before shooting for and completing a single-leg takedown. Sanchez sits up against the fence, posts and stands, then shoves away Villalobos and resumes range striking. Villalobos slips throwing a kick in the center of the cage and winds up with Sanchez atop him in half guard. Sanchez decks Villalobos with an elbow and stands, controlling the prone fighter’s legs and looking to pass. Villalobos drills him with an upkick, but soon after, Sanchez shucks the legs and attaches himself to Villalobos’s back. Villalobos resists a neck crank, peels Sanchez’s legs away and turns over to take top position, but Sanchez is waiting for him with a triangle attempt. Sanchez switches to an armbar which Villalobos escapes just before round’s end.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Sanchez
Sam Genovese scores the round 10-9 Sanchez
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Sanchez

Round 2

(+ Enlarge) | Photo: D. Mandel/Sherdog.com

Sanchez bested Villalobos.
Villalobos comes out leg-kicking again, mixing in a few push kicks to the body. They don’t keep Sanchez out of range, as “El Matador” keeps pressing forward to double jab and deliver a low kick of his own. Villalobos lands a body shot, tries to work a Thai clinch and gets pushed against the fence. Sanchez exits the clinch with a spinning back fist and now gets to work with his jab, sticking it in the face of Villalobos whenever the pair get in close quarters. Villalobos lands a push kick to the gut of Sanchez, then an uppercut. Sanchez replies with a series of four or five kicks to the body and arms of Villalobos.

A jumping knee from Villalobos lands in Sanchez’s gut inside the last minute. Sanchez connects with an overhand right that puts Villalobos on his back in the middle of the cage. After eating a few more shots from Sanchez on the ground, Villalobos finishes the round trying for an armbar.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Sanchez
Sam Genovese scores the round 10-9 Sanchez
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Sanchez

Round 3

Villalobos ducks under a spinning back kick and shoves Sanchez to the ground, then comes down on top in Sanchez’s half guard. Sanchez tries to elevate and sweep, but Villalobos stays heavy on top, delivers a few hammer fists to the face and then works to pass to the side. When Sanchez turns as if to give up his back, Villalobos dives for it and Sanchez is able to reverse momentum and sweep. Sanchez gets in a few good elbows on the ground, stands up and eats an upkick. Villalobos works back to his feet inside the two-minute mark, briefly pushes Sanchez against the fence but can’t find the takedown. The featherweights separate, and now it’s a firefight. Villalobos hurts Sanchez with a pair of uppercuts and then sends him to the canvas with a clinch knee. Villalobos stands over the downed Sanchez, blasting away with punches, then steps into full mount with 50 seconds on the clock. Sanchez rolls over, but before Villalobos can secure back-mount, Sanchez turns into him to finish the fight on top.

Round 1

(+ Enlarge) | Photo: D. Mandel/Sherdog.com

Coulter steamrolled O’Neal in 1:44.
O’Neal gets hold of Coulter and pushes him against the fence, where Coulter reverses the position and gives O’Neal a couple knees to the gut before separating. Coulter scores with a couple more knees that have O’Neal covering up, allowing Coulter connect with some hard right hands. O’Neal seems to have recovered as he steps off the fence to meet Coulter in the center of the cage. O’Neal lands a leg kick, then Coulter blasts him with an uppercut to the body, a knee to the face. O’Neal goes down and referee John McCarthy steps right in to stop the fight.

The Result

Rashad Coulter def. Jeremiah O’Neal via TKO (Knee and Punches) R1 1:44

Ryan Couture vs. Dakota Cochrane

Round 1

(+ Enlarge) | Photo: D. Mandel/Sherdog.com

Couture took out his foe in round one.
Cochrane grazes Couture’s midsection with a spinning kick before Couture closes the gap and clinches up against the fence with over-unders. The lightweights trade knees, Cochrane changes levels and brings Couture to the canvas at the foot of the fence. Couture scrambles up after a few seconds, Cochrane drops levels again, and this time Couture whips around to take the back. Cochrane goes belly down, trying to scrape off Couture, who only has one hook in place.

Couture gets the second hook and snakes his right arm underneath Cochrane’s chin to squeeze on a tight rear-naked choke. Trapped on his stomach with nowhere to go, Cochrane taps out.

The Result

Ryan Couture def. Dakota Cochrane via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) R1 3:23

Francis Carmont vs. Guilherme Viana

Round 1

Viana tries to swing a right hand through Carmont’s long guard and settles for a leg kick instead. Carmont catches the next low kick from Viana but can’t convert it into a takedown. Both guys are swinging with heavy hands but coming up just short. Carmont lands a leg kick, one to the body, then tries for another takedown which Viana denies. It’s a slow-moving give-and-take between the 205ers in the first half of the opening round, trading leg kicks and jabs as they circle the cage. Carmont presses forward and gets knocked off balance by a counter left hook. Viana creeps forward and sends a left hand off Carmont’s arm after both guys stick jabs. The round still seems up for grabs with 60 seconds left. Carmont puts a pair of kicks on the inside of Viana’s lead leg, shoots for the Brazilian’s hips and winds up being held against the cage for the final 20 seconds. Viana gets a takedown seconds before the bell.

Sherdog Scores

Sam Genovese scores the round 10-10
Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Carmont
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-10

Round 2

(+ Enlarge) | Photo: D. Mandel/Sherdog.com

Carmont won the first two rounds.
It’s Carmont pressing forward in the opening minute of round two, flicking jabs in Viana’s face while the light heavyweights continue to trade low kicks. Viana has a lump beneath his right eye, and his offense has dropped off even further as he’s been kept on his back foot so far in round two. Carmont moves in for the takedown, can’t bring Viana to the ground, and again the Brazilian turns the stuffed takedown into a clinch on the fence. Viana holds Carmont in place with underhooks but does little else, and referee John McCarthy splits them up with 1:35 on the clock. Carmont blasts Viana with an overhand right on the temple. Viana staggers backward and covers up against the fence while Carmont throws more right hands and knees. Carmont drops for the takedown, floors Viana and lands a few elbows from half guard. Viana regains closed guard, and he will survive to see round three.

Sherdog Scores

Sam Genovese scores the round 10-9 Carmont
Brian Knapp scores the round 10-8 Carmont
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Carmont

Round 3

Viana seems to have cleared the cobwebs as he closes the distance on Carmont, testing the range with jabs. Viana lands a clipping left hand as Carmont changes levels but nonetheless succumbs to another takedown from the Frenchman. Once he realizes he’s going down, Viana pulls guard and then uses a kimura to sweep. Carmont rolls over, giving up his back and allowing Viana to secure the rear mount with both hooks in. Viana is working for a rear-naked choke with 3:30 remaining in the fight, but Carmont is playing smart defense, trapping Viana’s arms and going two-on-one to fend off the RNC. Carmont throws punches over his shoulder, allowing Viana to try the choke again, but he still can’t get under Carmont’s chin. Viana is committed to the RNC, continuing to work for it as the final two minutes tick away. Carmont turns over and takes top position with 1:10 remaining, slipping out of a loose armbar attempt from Viana along the way. Carmont postures up and puts a forearm across Viana’s throat, landing a few hammer fists before the final bell.

Sherdog Scores

L.C. Davis vs. Hideo Tokoro

Round 1

Tokoro rushes out of his corner with a leaping knee that touches the body of the sidestepping Davis. The Japanese veteran falls to the ground, but Davis allows him to stand. Davis steps into the pocket and delivers a hard right hand; Tokoro eats it and tries another knee as the bantamweights engage in a brief clinch. Tokoro lands a jab, Davis a body blow, and then Tokoro changes levels for a fast takedown near the fence. Davis pops right back to his feet and soon forces Tokoro backward with a couple long left hands. When they hit the fence, it’s Tokoro controlling the tie-up with underhooks, then dropping for a heel hook. Davis pulls his leg free and dashes away, leaving Tokoro to stand back up and give chase. Davis keeps putting left hands on Tokoro’s chin, but Tokoro is taking them well. Tokoro knocks Davis to the ground with a spinning back fist in the closing seconds. Davis recovers quickly, scrambling back to his feet and taking Tokoro down.

Sherdog Scores

Sam Genovese scores the round 10-9 Davis
Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Davis
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Davis

Round 2

(+ Enlarge) | Photo: D. Mandel/Sherdog.com

Davis earned a tight split decision.
Tokoro moves forward on Davis to start the round, but the veteran isn’t letting his hands go. A low kick from Davis seems to stray to the groin; referee Jason Herzog checks with Tokoro, who says he’s fine to continue. Davis, meanwhile, is keeping his jab in Tokoro’s face, keeping the rangier at bay. Tokoro fakes a leaping knee and gets knocked out of the air with a right hand. When Davis tries to pounce on the ground, Tokoro drops back to attempt a heel hook. Davis stacks him up and the bantamweights scramble back to their feet, where Davis presses Tokoro against the fence with over-unders. Referee Herzog gives Davis multiple verbal warnings for holding the fence. Davis releases the clinch for just long enough to hurt Tokoro with a crossing right hand, then goes back to kneeing Tokoro’s legs and stomping his feet. Another elbow scores up top for Davis, whom Herzog continues to warn about grabbing the fence. Tokoro takes outside position, then gets Davis’ back standing and tries to drag him to the ground, but Davis thwarts it. Tokoro drops to try another heel hook, but again Davis defends. The round ends with Davis holding Tokoro on the fence.

Sherdog Scores

Sam Genovese scores the round 10-9 Davis
Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Davis
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Davis

Round 3

Tokoro puts Davis on the floor with a right hand to the chin 20 seconds into the final frame, then jumps into the American’s half guard. Tokoro tries an armbar, but Davis stands up and pulls his right arm free. As Davis comes back to the ground, Tokoro catches him with an upkick. Referee Herzog warns Tokoro for the foul, and Davis wants a minute to regain his composure. Instant replay shows that Davis’ knee was not on the ground when the upkick connected. The fight resumes with 3:40 on the clock, and Davis goes back to jabbing. Tokoro lays a kick across Davis’ midsection, causing the wrestler to clinch up and put Tokoro back on the fence. As he’s being taken down, Tokoro grabs for a kimura which he loses as soon as the 135ers hit the mat. Back up comes Tokoro midway through the round, only to be hugged on the fence again. This time, Tokoro reverses the position and brings Davis to his knees. Tokoro tries to jump on Davis’ back but rides too high, allowing Davis to slip out the back door. Instead, Tokoro goes for an armbar; Davis stacks him up and escapes, and the fighters wind up in north-south position on their knees with 90 seconds left. Davis works a front headlock and gets flipped over. As Tokoro stands to throw punches, Davis drives forward. It’s another takedown for Davis inside the final minute, but it doesn’t last long. Both guys are back up, and now Tokoro whips Davis to the ground with a kimura attempt. Tokoro is straddling Davis’ head but can’t get the tap, and now Davis escapes with less than 30 seconds left. Davis catches Tokoro with an arm-in guillotine and pulls guard, but it’s too late and Tokoro is saved by the bell. Both men raise their arms at the conclusion of the action-packed fight, and this one is headed to the judges.

Joe Warren vs. Marcos Galvao

Round 1

(+ Enlarge) | Photo: D. Mandel/Sherdog.com

Warren screamed and then lost his title.
Veteran referee “Big” John McCarthy is the third man in the cage for tonight’s 135-pound title bout. Warren swings a big right hand to get into range and then wraps up Galvao and runs him to the fence. Galvao reverses, gets reversed back and then tripped to the ground by Warren, who looks to move to side control. Galvao posts up and stands, hooking Warren’s leg along the way to score a takedown of his own. Warren uses butterfly guard to prevent Galvao from advancing, then jumps back to his feet. The bantamweights stay clinched up, trading knees underneath as they work along the fence. They separate with just under three minutes left in the opening round. Warren gets into range with another big overhand right, this time connecting with a glancing blow. Galvao gets taken down again but won’t stay there. When Galvao gets up, Warren holds him to the cage with a Greco-Roman clinch and does a little work inside. Warren releases with about one minute left, backs up as Galvao comes forward and then shoots again late in the round. Warren nearly jumps on Galvao’s back standing but slips off and winds up pressing him against the cage to end the round.

Sherdog Scores

Sam Genovese scores the round 10-9 Warren
Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Warren
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Warren

Round 2

Warren takes Galvao’s back standing, but before he can jump on or convert it to a takedown, Galvao drops to the ground to attack the champion’s legs. Galvao comes out of the scramble with a kneebar, and it is a deep one. Warren freezes up, staring at Galvao wrenching his leg; when the Brazilian stretches the submission to its limit, Warren screams in pain and referee McCarthy stops the fight due to a verbal submission.

The Result

Marcos Galvao def. Joe Warren via Submission (Kneebar) R2 0:45
