Boxing News: Ruslan Provodnikov, Jose Luis Castillo Set to Clash Nov. 28 in Moscow

By C.J. Tuttle Nov 19, 2014
After losing to Chris Algieri, Ruslan Provodnikov will return to the boxing ring against Jose Luis Castillo on Nov. 28.

Banner Promotions announced the contest late last week. The event will emanate from Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow and does not yet have a broadcast partner in the U.S.

A former WBO junior welterweight world champion, Provodnikov (23-3, 16 KO) has not been in action since losing a controversial split decision to Algieri in June. “Siberian Rocky” dropped Algieri twice with punches in their title bout. With the win, Algieri went on to be booked against Manny Pacquiao. Provodnikov will look to rebuild his resume against his Mexican counterpart, with his only other notable loss coming against Timothy Bradley Jr. via unanimous decision.

A veteran of 79 professional fights, 40-year-old Castillo (66-12-1, 57 KO) will look to win his third straight fight via knockout against a boxer who has yet to be finished. Castillo is best known for two fights: a fourth-round knockout against Ricky Hatton in 2007, or arguably one of the greatest boxing matches ever, a 2005 lightweight title fight against Diego Corrales.
