Cerrone-Oliveira Promoted to UFC Live 5 Main Card

An announced lightweight scrap between Donald Cerrone and Charles Oliveira was made official late Monday, making 12 fights now cleared for UFC Live 5.

The Cerrone-Oliveira matchup has also been promoted to the event’s main card, which will air live on cable channel Versus. Both Cerrone (Pictured) and Oliveira stepped in as injury replacements in a bout that was originally supposed to feature Paul Taylor taking on John Makdessi.

Headlined by a welterweight clash between hard-hitting Dan Hardy and tough veteran Chris Lytle, the Aug. 14 event will emanate from Bradley Center in Milwaukee. The show marks the UFC’s first event held in Wisconsin and will also feature a pivotal 155-pound affair pitting former WEC titleholder Benson Henderson against the red-hot Jim Miller.

Cerrone rides a four-fight winning streak into the showdown, having taken out Jamie Varner, Chris Horodecki, Paul Kelly and Vagner Rocha in the last nine months. The 28-year-old “Cowboy” owns 12 of his 15 career wins by submission.

After going undefeated through the first two years of his young pro career, Oliveira is winless in his last two outings. “Charles do Bronx” tasted defeat for the first time in December, falling by submission to the aforementioned Miller at UFC 124.

The 21-year-old Brazilian looked sharp in his next Octagon appearance, finishing Nik Lentz with a rear-naked choke in the second round of their UFC Live 4 bout on June 26. However, the victory was later changed to a no-contest after the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission reviewed the fight footage and confirmed that Oliveira had cracked Lentz with an illegal knee to the face, unfairly affecting the bout’s outcome.
