Unbeaten Dagestani Khabib Nurmagomedov still has a fight at UFC on Fox 19, as he will face Octagon newcomer Darrell Horcher on the April 16 card.
The Las Vegas-based promotion confirmed the matchup on Thursday following an initial report from Fox Sports. Nurmagomedov vs. Horcher will be contested at a 160-pound catch-weight and will be the second bout on the Fox-televised main card. UFC on Fox 19 takes place at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla., and is headlined by a light heavyweight clash between Glover Teixeira and Rashad Evans.
Nurmagomedov was originally scheduled to face fellow lightweight contender Tony Ferguson in the evening’s headliner, but “El Cucuy” withdrew from the contest earlier this week. The promotion was reportedly looking to rebook the bout at UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas on May 29, but it is unclear if those plans are still in place. Donald Cerrone volunteered to face Nurmagomedov, and the two fighters bickered on Twitter Wednesday about a possible contract, but ultimately nothing came to fruition.
Horcher is a veteran of the Bellator MMA and Cage Fury Fighting Championship promotions. The Unrivaled Athletics representative enters the bout on a five-fight winning streak and has won 12 of his 13 professional fights overall. His lone defeat came to Phillipe Nover at Bellator 95 in April 2013.
Nurmagomedov hasn’t competed since April 2014, when he took a dominant unanimous verdict against current 155-pound king Rafael dos Anjos at UFC on Fox 11. “The Eagle” is 22-0 in his career, including six victories in UFC competition.
