Bantamweight champion Marlon Moraes will defend his title against Sheymon da Silva Moraes at World Series of Fighting 22 on Aug. 1.
The bout was confirmed by multiple sources close to both Sheymon Moraes and within World Series of Fighting. WSOF 22 will be held at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, with a welterweight title fight between Jake Shields and Rousimar Palhares headlining.
This will be Marlon Moraes’ second title defense. He defeated Josh Hill by unanimous decision at WSOF 18 in February, and submitted Cody Bollinger in a catch-weight bout last September. He won the title against Josh Rettinghouse in March of 2014 in a dominating performance. Now 14-4-1 in his MMA career, he is the top-ranked bantamweight outside the UFC, clocking in at eighth in the most recent edition of the Sherdog.com rankings.
Sheymon Moraes, a highly-touted prospect formerly of Team Nogueira and now training out of Black House in Los Angeles, won his promotional debut against Gabriel Solorio last December. A longtime muay Thai fighter, he boasts a 7-0 MMA record, with four of those wins by way of knockout.
