UFC on Fox 24 now has a full main card.
Demetrious Johnson will defend his flyweight title against Wilson Reis in the headliner of the April 15 event, while Ronaldo Souza will lock horns with Robert Whittaker at middleweight in another featured bout. The matchups were announced during the UFC 209 preliminary broadcast on Saturday night.
UFC on Fox 24 takes place at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo., and also features a strawweight tilt pitting Michelle Waterson against Rose Namajunas. The main draw will also see Jeremy Stephens collide with Renato Carneiro at 145 pounds.
One of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the sport today, has won 11 consecutive fights. “Mighty Mouse” last appeared at “The Ultimate Fighter 24” finale, where he took a five-round verdict over reality show winner Tim Elliott in the evening’s main event. Johnson was supposed to meet Reis at UFC 201 but had to withdraw from the contest due to injury.
Reis, meanwhile, enters the title bout on a three-fight winning streak. In his last outing, the Brazilian veteran earned a unanimous decision triumph over Yuta Sasaki at UFC 208. Reis has also bested Hector Sandoval and Dustin Ortiz during his current streak.
Souza has lost just once in his last 11 outings, a controversial split-decision setback against Yoel Romero at UFC 194. Since then, “Jacare” has posted back-to-back first-round stoppages of Tim Boetsch and Vitor Belfort.
Whittaker has won six straight bouts in the Octagon. Most recently, “The Reaper” scored a technical knockout victory over Derek Brunson at UFC Fight Night 101 on Nov. 26. He is 8-2 during his promotional tenure overall.
