UFC Adds to Upcoming Cards
Sunday, August 24, 2008
by Sherdog.com Staff

In the past week the Ultimate Fighting Championship has added several fights to upcoming events.

UFC 89, set for Oct. 18 in Birmingham, England, has become one of the promotion’s biggest fight cards of the year, and two more bouts were made official on Wednesday. In a lightweight bout, Per Eklund (Pictures) (13-3-1) of Sweden will take on France’s Samy Schiavo (Pictures) (10-5).

Both men are coming off losses in their UFC debuts. Clay Guida (Pictures) stopped Schiavo in the first round of an April UFC Fight Night bout, ending Schiavo’s six-fight win streak. Eklund lost a decision to Sam Stout (Pictures) at UFC 80 in January.

Stout (13-4-1) will also be on the UFC 89 card. He will take on Liverpool, England’s Terry Etim (Pictures) (10-2) in another lightweight bout.

At the top of the lineup, which will be televised on Spike TV at 9 p.m. EST, Michael Bisping (Pictures) will meet Chris Leben (Pictures). A light heavyweight bout between title contender Lyoto Machida and undefeated Brazilian Thiago Silva (Pictures) will also be featured, as well as a fight between Brandon Vera (Pictures) and Keith Jardine (Pictures).

On Sunday, the UFC also confirmed three previously reported bouts for the Sept. 17 UFC Fight Night event that will take place in Omaha, Neb.

Dan Miller (Pictures), Mike Massenzio and Jason Brilz will all be debuting in the Octagon at the event, which will air on Spike TV.

Miller (8-1), who won the IFL middleweight title in May when he submitted Ryan McGivern (Pictures), will face Rob Kimmons (Pictures) (21-3). Massenzio (10-2), a talented prospect from New Jersey who holds a win over Miller, will fight veteran UFC slugger Drew McFedries (7-3).

Brilz (15-1-1) will have the support of his hometown of Omaha in a light heavyweight bout against Australia’s Brad Morris (9-3).

Headlining the card will be a matchup pitting Nathan Diaz (Pictures) against Josh Neer (Pictures).
