Dmitry Smoliakov vs. Cyril Asker

Round 1

Asker lands first with a right hand over the top, but he's countered by Smoliakov with a short right on the other side. Asker is controlling the action early, staking out the center of the cage and pushing toward Smoliakov in the opening minute. Smoliakov tries to push off the fence and swings at Asker with a flurry of punches, but it looks like Asker took a finger to the eye in the exchange. Referee Al Guinee pauses the fight, but Asker needs only a few seconds to recover. When action resumes, Asker shoots and hits a quick takedown. It's Smoliakov doing the damage, however, rattling off rapid-fire punches from the bottom while Asker sits in his guard. Asker passes to side control, then steps over to full mount, where he begins raining down punches. Smoliakov is doing well to cover up, but the referee is nearby, having a close look at the midway point of the round. Asker is unrelenting, hammering Smoliakov with elbows and punches, and although not every shot is getting through, Smoliakov doesn't look to be escaping anytime soon. Referee Guinee steps in and halts the contest.

The Official Result

Cyril Asker def. Dmitry Smoliakov via TKO (Punches and Elbows) R1 2:41

Bojan Mihajlovic vs. Joachim Christensen

Round 1

Mihajlovic crouches low and tries to duck inside on the taller Christensen, who uses his long legs to low-kick the Serbian out of range. Christensen presses forward, and the 205ers tie up as they near the fence at the one-minute mark. They quickly untangle and Christensen connects with a right hand that gets the attention of his opponent. Mihajlovic gets backed up to the wall with a body kick, then slips throwing a punch and winds up with Christensen in his guard. Christensen works on top with half the round remaining, slamming a few heavy elbow strikes into Mihajlovic's face. Mihajlovic locks down his opponent's arms in an attempt to slow the offense, so Christensen switches to short body punches. Christensen stands over Mihajlovic and drops a few punches, then kneels down in the guard again. Referee Nic Jones brings the fighters back to their feet with half a minute remaining, and Mihajlovic tries to mount a late assault. Christensen slows him down with short punches in the tie-up, then backs him up with body kicks and finishes the round with a clinch knee.

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Christensen
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Christensen
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Christensen

Round 2

Christensen presses forward on Mihajlovic, who backs up to the fence again and windmills punches as the Danish fighter comes near. This time it's Mihajlovic who gets the outside position in the clinch as the light heavyweights tangle up against the cage again. They separate 90 seconds into the round, then Christensen comes back to underhook Mihajlovic to the wall. Christensen is putting in work with short, steady body shots and knees to the legs. Halfway through the round, they split again, but seconds later, Mihajlovic gets caught on the cup with an errant low kick. The fight resumes with an apology from Christensen for the inadvertant foul. He backs up Mihajlovic to the fence again; Mihajlovic is trying to pull some tricks, winding up his right hand and then flashing his left jab, but Christensen walks through it to score with more short strikes in the clinch. Both men are slowing down here in the late stages of round two, but it's Mihajlovic breathing heavy with his mouth open as Christensen roughs him up in the clinch again.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Christensen
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Christensen
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Christensen

Round 3

Christensen comes shooting early in the final frame, but his double-leg turns into yet another clinch on the fence. Mihajlovic is trying to slip away, absorbing knees to his midsection in the meantime. Christensen releases with a clinch knee and a pair of punches to Mihajlovic's face. Mihajlovic nearly chops out Christensen's legs with a hard inside low kick, but the Dane keeps his footing and muscles Mihajlovic against the wall once more. After feeding Mihajlovic some short right hands, Christensen releases, waits for Mihajlovic to step forward and then flattens the Serbian with a hellacious uppercut. Referee Jones rushes in to stop the fight.

The Official Result

Joachim Christensen def. Bojan Mihajlovic via TKO (Punches) R3 2:05

Chase Sherman vs. Walt Harris

Round 1

Sherman looks to go upstairs early with a right high kick, but it's blocked by Harris with a mitt to his head. Harris snaps off a solid one-two, just misses with a right hook as Sherman leans in, then catches "The Vanilla Gorilla" with a heavy body kick. Harris comes away from the next exchange complaining of an eye poke, but referee Al Guinee tells the heavyweights to fight on. A whipping right hand knocks Sherman backward a few steps, and Harris follows up with a couple stiff jabs. The big men tie up and Harris fires a knee up the center, aimed at Sherman's head; the knee misses, but Harris' shin or foot connects with Sherman's cup, and referee Guinee pauses the fight. Sherman takes a minute to recover, and they're soon back to business with two minutes on the clock. Sherman slips a punch and gets in a right hook of his own before the fighters settle into a slower pace down the stretch, circling and pawing but neither man landing any major shots. Harris sticks a hard jab in the closing seconds, then a knee to the body. "The Big Ticket" tries the same clinch knee at the bell, but again winds up dealing Sherman an unlucky low blow.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Harris
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Harris
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Harris

Round 2

Another minute of circling and sloppy exchanges begins round two, with Harris having the better footwork of the two fighters, working from the center of the cage and avoiding Sherman's blitzes. Sherman has been tagged by a couple hard right hands so far in the fight, and now Harris adds another. Halfway through the round, Harris pulls down Sherman's head in the Thai clinch and lights him up with a huge knee. Harris releases and decks Sherman with a left hand as he drops to the floor, and referee Guinee steps in for the stoppage.

The Official Result

Walt Harris def. Chase Sherman via KO (Knee and Punch) R2 2:41

Jocelyn Jones-Lybarger vs. Nina Ansaroff

Round 1

Jones-Lybarger reaches out with long punches in the opening moments, but it's Ansaroff landing with kicks to the Arizona fighter's body. Jones-Lybarger keeps trying to get into range, but she's getting picked off by the speedy jab of Ansaroff. Jones-Lybarger begins to find her range with a few jab-overhand rights, and she's doing well to keep Ansaroff on her back foot here in the middle part of the round. Ansaroff misses with an uppercut but lands a low kick and pushes down on Jones-Lybarger's head to defend a possible shot. Halfway through the frame, Ansaroff catches a kick and trips Jones-Lybarger to the mat in the center of the cage. Jones-Lybarger tries to wrap up from the bottom as she holds Ansaroff at bay in a half-butterfly guard. Jones-Lybarger switches to closed guard, tries to kick up her legs for a possible armbar, but Ansaroff keeps her upper body pinned to the canvas. Ansaroff is staying busy on top, too, constantly peppering Jones-Lybarger with short left hands to the body and face. Just before the end of the round, Ansaroff begins teeing off with heavier punches, finishing strong and in top position.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Ansaroff
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Ansaroff
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Ansaroff

Round 2

Ansaroff kicks the legs out from underneath a lunging Jones-Lybarger, then pounces to keep her on the ground in the middle of the cage. Ansaroff works from half guard this time, now tries to sneak around to attach herself to Jones-Lybarger's back. Jones-Lybarger blocks the second hook at first, but as she rolls to her knees, Ansaroff secures the back-mount and immediately begins working for a rear-naked choke. Jones-Lybarger buries her chin to stay out of danger and rolls onto her side, but now Ansaroff is framing up an arm-triangle choke. Jones-Lybarger rolls to her knees again, Ansaroff still on her back, dropping hammerfists. Ansaroff catches Jones-Lybarger on her side and lands several hard punches with Jones-Lybarger's head flush on the mat. With 90 seconds left, Jones-Lybarger tries to stand and shake Ansaroff from her back. Ansaroff goes for the RNC again, can't secure the choke and instead resumes bashing Jones-Lybarger with left hands. Jones-Lybarger continues to hang on in the final minute, though Ansaroff nearly secures a choke in the waning seconds of the round.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-8 Ansaroff
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-8 Ansaroff
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-8 Ansaroff

Round 3

After a nightmare second round, Jones-Lybarger comes out on the attack, firing straight punches as she walks forward on Ansaroff. The American Top Team fighter does well to slide backward and avoid Jones-Lybarger's rangy punches, though Jones-Lybarger occasionally touches Ansaroff's chin with a punch. Two minutes in, a low kick from Ansaroff turns the tides and sends Jones-Lybarger to the ground in the middle of the cage. Ansaroff takes full mount almost immediately and begins unloading with punches, then takes back-mount when Jones-Lybarger rolls face-down. Ansaroff locks on a rear-naked choke but can't quite get under the chin. Ansaroff won't give up on it, though, and after some adjustment, she gets her forearm across Jones-Lybarger's throat and forces the tap.

The Official Result

Nina Ansaroff def. Jocelyn Jones-Lybarger via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) R3 3:39

Alex White vs. Tony Martin

Round 1

Martin closes the distance quickly and presses White against the fence, but after a brief bout of clinching, Martin tells referee Al Guinee that his cup is broken. Martin goes to his corner and gets the problem remedied in moments, and the lightweights restart in the center of the cage. White backs up to the fence and widens his base to defend a high double-leg shot from Martin, who switches to a single and spins White to the ground. Leaning across White's body in half guard, Martin looks to frame up a kimura, but White clasps his hands to defend. Martin gives up on the arm and slugs White in the face with a few good left hands as they hit the midway point of round one. Martin goes back to the left arm and eventually rips it away from White's body, but White gets it tucked away before Martin can finish the armlock. Martin passes to side control now, leaning right to left across White as they fight at the base of the fence. Martin goes knee-on-belly and starts dropping some heavy shots, but White pivots off the fence and reclaims full guard. Martin stands just before the end of the round and socks White in the face with one more hard right hand.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Martin
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-8 Martin
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Martin

Round 2

White grazes the temple of Martin with a right hand in the first 30 seconds, but Martin quickly regains his footing and changes levels for a takedown. The lightweights are right back where they spent the majority of round one, with Martin working on top, jamming White against the fence. Martin passes to half guard and again looks to be considering a kimura, but instead he steps over to full mount. White spins and kicks off the fence to escape the dangerous position, then sits up and tries to turn the tables by driving forward on a double-leg shot. Martin gets taken down briefly but uses a kimura to sweep, and now the 155ers scramble up with less than one minute on the clock. Martin digs an underhook and pushes White against the cage again, and Martin uses his free right hand to land punches to White's body and legs.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Martin
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Martin
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Martin

Round 3

Martin puts White up against the wall once more as the final round begins, both men looking tired as they continue their grinding battle in the clinch. Martin is scoring with short right hands, though the punches don't seem to faze White, who's just trying to create space to escape. Martin drops to try a takedown, then has to bail as White threatens with a guillotine choke. Now it's White marching forward with punches, backing up Martin to the wall; when they hit the fence, however, it's Martin grabbing hold of White and putting his back against the cage. The pace slows as Martin holds White in a bodylock and throws low knees; referee Guinee calls for action as they hit the final minute of the bout, but the action doesn't really pick up before time runs out.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Martin (30-27 Martin)

Alexey Oleynik vs. Viktor Pesta

Round 1

Oleynik comes forward swinging punches, but Pesta is slipping and side-stepping whenever the Russian gets too close. Hard jab connects for Oleynik, and now the "Boa Constrictor" shoots a double-leg that puts Pesta on the fence. Pesta defends and spins Oleynik around, then trips him to the floor about a foot away from the fence. Working from Oleynik's half guard, Pesta postures up and swings a big right hand that whizzes by Oleynik's face. Oleynik rolls to his knees and tries to stand, but Pesta hooks his right leg and keeps him down. Pesta connects with two solid right hands from ride position and then puts Oleynik flat on his back again. As Pesta punches from side control, Oleynik wraps up an ezekiel choke from the bottom. Pesta steps over to full mount, looking to free himself, but it only makes it easier for Oleynik to cinch the choke and force a surprising tap.

The Official Result

Alexey Oleynik def. Viktor Pesta via Submission (Ezekiel Choke) R1 2:57

Frankie Saenz vs. Augusto Mendes

Round 1

Mendes lands the first combination of the fight and then catches the incoming Saenz with a counter hook a few seconds later. "Tanquinho" tries a trip takedown at the fence, but Saenz barely touches the ground before he springs back to his feet. Saenz goes to the body with a left, then upstairs with a right and escapes from another Mendes clinch attempt, though Mendes clips him with a hook on the break. Saenz lands a right straight-low kick combo, shoves off another clinch attempt but again takes a punch from Mendes on the way out. With 90 seconds left, Mendes scores a takedown and tries to trap Saenz at the base of the fence, but again Saenz is able to escape. Mendes gives chase and cracks Saenz with a looping right to the jaw before pushing him against the wall, now with one minute remaining. The 135ers fight off the fence, Saenz landing a knee to the body and Mendes scoring with an uppercut before they separate.

Round 2

Mendes wobbles Saenz with a cracking left hand in the first 30 seconds of the round, but Saenz is able to recover as Mendes chooses to hold him against the fence. Mendes catches hold of a step-in knee from Saenz and runs him to the ground, but again the wrestler is able to stand in a hurry. Mendes keeps him trapped on the wall, but out of nowhere, a standing elbow to the jaw sends the Brazilian to the floor. Saenz kneels down in Mendes' open guard for a few seconds before backing up and asking the BJJ ace to stand. The bantamweights slow down a bit at the midway point of the round, though Saenz is regaining some ground with low kicks and single punches. Saenz is landing the better shots here in the latter half of the round, but Mendes slows him down with a brief clinch. Saenz is back on the move with 30 seconds left, shooting for a late single-leg takedown, but Mendes shows tremendous balance and keeps his footing.

Sherdog Scores

Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Saenz

Round 3

Both men connect with solid right hands in the opening moments of the round, but it's a follow-up left from Mendes that puts Saenz on roller skates, staggering backward to the fence. Mendes tries to chase him down, but Saenz grabs hold of the Brazilian and spins him against the fence to slow the fight. Saenz tries a bodylock takedown, but Mendes gets an underhook and denies it. Lots of pummeling for position here, but not much in the way of offense from either man. When they separate, it's Saenz stepping into the pocket to deliver a sledgehammer right hand. Mendes eats it and continues to come forward, but "Tanquinho" is looking a bit tired now and his punches are missing more than connecting. Mendes shoots and completes a double-leg with two minutes remaining, but Saenz is back on his feet just seconds later. Back to the wall they go, Saenz taking the outside position in the clinch, cracking Mendes with another level elbow. Inside the final minute now, Mendes ducks under a Saenz punch and double-legs him to the ground once again. Saenz stands up, still held against the cage, now turning him around, but Mendes fends off a late takedown attempt.

Devin Powell vs. Drakkar Klose

Round 1

Klose rushes Powell with punches and a flying knee, backing him up against the cage within seconds of the opening bell. Powell tries to fight back with short punches inside, but Klose has a tight bodylock and is keeping him tight on the fence. Klose begins landing hard knees to the body, followed by a grinding elbow to the jaw as he continues to control Powell in the clinch. Klose is mixing it up with knees and foot stomps, thwarting Powell's attempt to overhook and escape. The lightweights finally separate with two minutes left in the round, and Powell sprints to the other side of the cage to reset. Powell connects with a right hand but gets caught in awkward footing, and Klose finds his opponent's jaw with a right hand of his own. Klose grabs hold of Powell and suplexes him to the ground, then stands over the prone Powell and kicks at his legs until referee John McCarthy orders a stand-up. Powell sprints away again, and this time Klose raises his arms in frustration. The round ends with the fighters back in the clinch, this time with Powell briefly on the outside.

Powell slips to the ground, but Klose wants him back on his feet. One minute in, it's Klose pinning Powell against the cage again, grinding away with foot stomps and short punches. Powell pushes off to create space, but it's Klose who connects with a big overhand to Powell's jaw before bringing the fight back to the clinch. With two minutes to go, Powell lands a standing elbow and gets out of the clinch. Klose pays him back with a hard kick to the body, then a jump knee as he runs Powell against the wall again. Referee McCarthy resets the fighters with 35 seconds left in the round. Both men swing and miss with punches, but it's Klose who gets the final word with a late takedown.

Klose keeps him there for a minute or more, banging away with knees to the legs, always using his arms to control Powell's upper body. After they're reset by referee McCarthy, Klose taunts Powell with his arms outstretched, inviting New Hampshirite to strike. Instead, it's Klose who presses forward, backing up Powell to the cage once more. They split again, and now Powell steps forward, firing kicks at Klose, who waits for the opportunity to clinch again and then spins Powell against the cage. Klose keeps his opponent on the fence as the final minute ticks down. They're split up by the ref with 10 seconds remaining, but nothing comes of the restart; this one will go to the judges.

John Moraga vs. Sergio Pettis

Round 1

Moraga opens with a few inside leg kicks as he circles counterclockwise around the outside, Pettis following from the center. Pettis sticks a jab, comes around the corner with a follow-up left hook, but it's Moraga taking control of the fight by clinching Pettis against a cage post. Pettis breaks away with another left hook and reclaims his position in the middle of the cage. Midway through round one, Moraga is already sporting a serious mouse underneath his left eye; Pettis tacks on some more damage with a stiff right hand from the southpaw stance. Moraga slips a punch and zaps Pettis with a right hand of his own, then tries to catch the Milwaukee native in a guillotine as Pettis shoots for a takedown. Moraga releases the choke and scrambles back to his feet, only to be walked down by Pettis with more kicks and punches. Moraga lands the same right hand, but this time Pettis is waiting with a hooking counter of his own. Moraga looks stunned as Pettis walks him down, but time runs out before "The Phenom" can capitalize.

Pettis goes to the ground willingly, jumping guard with a guillotine which falls away almost immediately. Pettis kicks away Moraga and escapes to his feet with just over three minutes on the clock. Moraga shoots from a long way out and quickly abandons the takedown attempt. Pettis throws a lovely four- or five-punch combination but most of the punches deflect off Moraga's gloves and arms. Moraga pushes Pettis to the fence with a single-leg, now with 1:45 on the clock. Pettis keeps his balance and separates, popping Moraga with a punch on his way out. Moraga tries another long shot, pushing Pettis to the wall, where Pettis makes him rethink the decision with a guillotine attempt. Moraga escapes and gets a glove up to block a Pettis switch kick in the closing seconds.

Moraga runs Pettis against the wall with a takedown attempt, switching from leg to body as he tries to drag Pettis to the floor. Pettis goes down exactly two minutes into the round and immediately begins looking for a guillotine. Moraga frees his head and drops back in Pettis' guard to attempt a heel hook, but Pettis stands up right away and relieves any pressure on his leg. Now it's Pettis on top and Moraga on the bottom, grabbing for a kimura. The flyweights stand and move to the fence, where Pettis takes the outside position with about 90 seconds remaining. Pettis drops levels to try a takedown of his own, but he can't complete it and gives up with 70 ticks on the clock. Saunders goes to the midsection with a kick, McGee to the legs of "Killa B" with a pair of hard chops. Saunders is looking to deliver a big clinch knee whenever he gets hold of McGee, but "Crusher" keeps his head up to avoid the shots. Saunders slams another kick into McGee's ribs as they hit the midway point of round one. McGee double-pumps his jab and follows up with a head kick, but he walks into another body kick soon after. Two minutes in, McGee traps Saunders on the fence and grabs for a high double-leg, but Saunders quickly frees himself and circles back to the center, scoring with another kick on his way out. Body kicks from Saunders continue to be the most effective weapons in the fight through the middle of round two. McGee grabs for a bodylock, maybe trying for a trip, but he releases when Saunders threatens with another knee. McGee pushes Saunders to the fence with an underhook; Saunders defends on one leg, popping McGee in the side of the head with short left hands.

Joe Lauzon vs. Marcin Held

Round 1

Held strikes first with a snappy left straight, but Lauzon attacks with a flurry of punches that forces the Polish prospect to shoot for a takedown. Lauzon drills Held in the side of the head with a few sharp elbows, but Held powers back to his feet and avoids Lauzon's big follow-up elbow on the break. Lauzon initiates the next clinch on the fence, holding Held in a bodylock, but Held spins him around two minutes into the period. Held hits a trip 30 seconds later and now postures up in Lauzon's open guard, while Lauzon tries to kick off the fence. Held passes to side control on Lauzon's left side, lands a few scattered ground strikes but can't keep the Massachusetts native on the floor. Lauzon is back up in the final minute, but Held pins him against the wall again with an underhook. Once they hit the mat, Held quickly attaches himself to Lauzon's back and sits up against the fence. After a brief struggle, Lauzon twists around and catches Held standing up, latching on to a double-leg. Held gets taken down, stands up against the wall, still tied up by Lauzon in the clinch. Held spins him around, then Lauzon takes another turn, and Held breaks the stalemate with a knee to Lauzon's forehead. As the lightweights move back to the center of the cage, Held hits another takedown to land in Lauzon's guard, now with two minutes on the clock. Referee Herb Dean calls for action; Held threatens with an arm-triangle setup, but Lauzon sniffs it out and clears his arms. Lauzon throws up an armbar that causes some concern for Held, who has to stack up and slowly extract his arm. Despite the late sub attempt from Lauzon, it's Held who finishes the round on top.

Held tries to hold Lauzon on the wall, but "J-Lau" breaks free. Held scores another takedown with three minutes on the clock, but Lauzon is back on his feet 30 seconds later. Lauzon works a bodylock takedown on the fence; Held shows great balance in staying on his feet, then turns the tables and puts Lauzon's back to the cage. They separate, Lauzon marches forward, and Held changes levels to score another takedown with 60 seconds remaining. Referee Dean is quick to call for work on the ground; Lauzon is trying to lock down Held's arms and prevent any work from happening. Held steps over to full mount and spends the final seconds trying for what looks like a mounted triangle.

B.J. Penn vs. Yair Rodriguez

Round 1

Veteran referee John McCarthy is the third man in the cage for tonight's featherweight main event, with judges Derek Cleary, Junichiro Kamijo and Marcos Rosales scoring at cageside. Rodriguez opens with a body kick-left straight combination, then sidesteps to dodge Penn's first punch. Penn steps inside as Rodriguez throws a spinning kick and pushes the Mexican against the fence with an underhook. Rodriguez won't be held there, creates space and moves back to the center of the cage. Penn takes a high kick off the glove and then gets his head off center to slip a pair of huge overhand punches from the speedy Rodriguez. Penn pushes out from the center, goes underneath a Rodriguez punch and tries to clinch, but Rodriguez pushes him away. Rodriguez slaps Penn's face with a left high kick, then throws a spinning kick that loops around the Hawaiian's head. Rodriguez transitions from a blocked flying knee to a whizzer, spinning Penn against the fence to deliver another kick. With two minutes left in round one, it's Rodriguez closing in on Penn from the center of the cage. Rodriguez plants a hard kick on Penn's body, then throws a few at the legs of "The Prodigy." Another whirling left high kick stuns Penn, and Rodriguez follows up with a front kick to the jaw. Penn is rocked, backing up to the fence as Rodriguez steps forward to attack with more kicks, pounding the body and legs of the ex-champ. Penn is being forced into a defensive shell as the final minute of the round ticks down, and Rodriguez is relentless with his kicks. Penn scores with an uppercut in the clinch as time expires, but Rodriguez gets the last word with a knee to the body, an overhand right, then a leg kick.

Round 2

Rodriguez greets Penn in the center of the cage with a front kick and a right hand, and Penn flops to his back in a daze. Rodriguez pounces as Penn shifts his guard, trying to hold "El Pantera" at bay. Rodriguez is just too long and accurate, blasting through Penn's guard with punches as referee McCarthy stands inches away. Penn is blocking some shots but also absorbing some heavy blows, and as he rolls onto his side, referee McCarthy decides he's seen enough. Yair Rodriguez notches the biggest win of his career, moving to 10-1 with an early second-round stoppage against B.J. Penn.
