A welterweight confrontation between Mike Pyle and T.J. Waldburger has been added to the burgeoning UFC 170 bill.
UFC officials announced the pairing Wednesday morning. The Feb. 22 event is headlined by a light heavyweight showdown pitting former champion Rashad Evans against ex-heavyweight standout Daniel Cormier and takes place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. UFC 170 will air live on pay-per-view and will also see Demian Maia collide with Rory MacDonald in a pivotal welterweight clash.
Pyle, 38, saw a four-fight winning streak snapped in his most recent outing, in which he was knocked out by surging vet Matt Brown in just 29 seconds. Prior to that setback, “Quicksand” posted three victories last year and kicked off 2013 with a split decision win over Rick Story at UFC 160.
Waldburger, meanwhile, enters his confrontation with Pyle 13 years the junior of his opponent. The submission specialist has racked up a UFC record of 4-3 over three years with the organization but was knocked out in his last appearance, falling to Adlan Amagov this past October at UFC 166.
