The Taekwondo Hall of Famer from Malmö Takes on the Wrestler from Gothenburg
Sep 10, 2013 Comments
(PRESS RELEASE) -- AVAM 's founder David is probably Sweden's all
time greatest Taekwondo athlete, and one of few people in the world
who have been honoured to be inducted into the Taekwondo Hall of
Fame. During his Taekwondo career he also practised BJJ and
participated in lots of competitions worldwide. After receiving his
black belt in BJJ he began to compete in MMA, and debuted at
Superior Challenge 8 in Malmö. Where he managed to win over a more
experienced opponent by an impressive Knee Bar 51 seconds into the
first round.
Magnus from GBG MMA has a background in Greco-Roman and Freestyle Wrestling, and Muay Thai. He has competed actively in Wrestling and Submission Wrestling, and has since two years been a part of the Swedish National Submission Wrestling Team. The Gothenburger became Swedish Shootfighting Champion in 2012 and has won four of his last five MMA bouts. Strandner began competing in MMA as a middleweight. Later on he gained some weight and became a light heavyweight fighter, but now he’s working his way back to his primary weight class.
Babak Aghavali, CEO Superior Group International: - As usual, AVAM
take on tough opponents, without exception, even for its founder
and head coach David
Glasnovic. Each time I suggest a bout or an opponent to David
he responds: "Just go for it, the harder opponent the better."
During his bout at Superior Challenge 8 in Malmö everyone in the
arena stood up and cheered for him all through the entire bout, but
this time he will compete away from home against the hometown
favourite Magnus
Strandner. Magnus who accepted the bout immediately have been
training hard all through the summer. Style wise, we will
experience a Striker vs. Wrestler in a very even matchup as both
athletes are very experienced Grapplers as well. It’s also
extremely exciting to experience the rivalry between two of
Sweden’s largest MMA academies and a battle between the cities
Malmo vs. Gothenburg.
