By The Numbers: The PFL in 2022

The Professional Fighters League has tied a bow on another eventful year. What began with PFL Challenger Series 1 on Feb. 18 wrapped 281 days later with the 2022 PFL Championships on Nov. 25, as the promotion elbowed its way into European markets for the first time and crowned its latest set of champions. The PFL now settles in to its months-long sabbatical with an eye toward 2023, which promises its own twists and turns, jaw-dropping knockouts, breathtaking submissions and unexpected power shifts.

As plans start to unfold for what will be the company’s fifth season, a look at some of the numbers it produced in 2022:

18: Events staged by the PFL in 2022. All told, the schedule featured eight installments of the PFL Challenger Series, six regular-season shows and four playoff cards.

142: Bouts promoted by the Professional Fighters League over the past 12 months. A total of 69 of them concluded without a true finish: 52 unanimous decisions, 15 split decisions and two no contests.

6,000,000: In total prize money awarded to the six PFL champions in 2022. All six—heavyweight Ante Delija, light heavyweight Rob Wilkinson, welterweight Sadibou Sy, lightweight Olivier Aubin-Mercier, featherweight Brendan Loughnane and women’s lightweight Larissa Pacheco—were first-time tournament winners.

51: PFL fights ended by knockout or technical knockout in the last year, accounting for 49% of the finishes within the organization.

24: Seconds needed for Ray Cooper III to put away Brett Cooper with knees and punches at PFL 6 on July 1. It was the fastest finish via KO/TKO under the Professional Fighters League flag in 2022.

1,618: Days spent by American Top Team’s Kayla Harrison as an undefeated mixed martial artist. The two-time Olympic gold medalist submitted Brittney Elkin with a first-round armbar in her June 21, 2018 debut and started her career with 15 consecutive victories before dropping a unanimous decision to Pacheco in the 2022 women’s lightweight final on Nov. 25.

52: PFL fights ended by submission in the last year, accounting for 51% of the finishes within the organization.

29: Seconds needed for “The Ultimate Fighter Brazil” Season 3 winner Antonio Carlos Jr. to dismiss Delan Monte with a brabo choke at PFL 1 on April 20. It was the fastest finish via submission under the Professional Fighters League banner in 2022.

6: Straight wins, all of them finishes, for Wilkinson since he was cut by the Ultimate Fighting Championship in 2018 following back-to-back losses to Siyar Bahadurzada and Israel Adesanya.

.760: Cumulative winning percentage between the four men—Natan Schulte, Raush Manfio, Alex Martinez and Steven Ray—Aubin-Mercier defeated on his path to winning the 2022 lightweight championship.
