By The Numbers: UFC 288 Pre-Fight Edition


Aljamain Sterling will put the undisputed Ultimate Fighting Championship bantamweight crown on the line against returning former champion Henry Cejudo in the UFC 288 headliner on Saturday at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Meanwhile, Belal Muhammad toes the line against Gilbert Burns in the three-round welterweight co-main event at 170 pounds.

As UFC 288 “Sterling vs. Cejudo” approaches, a look at some of the numbers the fighters on the card bring to the table:

53: Rounds completed by Sterling as a professional mixed martial artist. The Serra-Longo Fight Team product has gone the distance on 12 different occasions and carries a 10-2 record in those bouts.

8: Cejudo wins by knockout or technical knockout, accounting for 50% of his career total (16). His list of UFC victims: Dominick Cruz, Marlon Moraes, T.J. Dillashaw and Wilson Reis. Cejudo holds eight other wins by decision (50%).

1,041: Significant strikes landed by Muhammad as a UFC welterweight, placing him eighth on the promotion’s all-time list at 170 pounds. Only Kamaru Usman (1,334), Neil Magny (1,300), Georges St. Pierre (1,254), Robbie Lawler (1,192), Stephen Thompson (1,186), Tim Means (1,111) and Thiago Alves (1,070) have been credited with more.

12: Consecutive calendar years in which Burns has fought at least once. In addition to his 2-0 mark in 2023, the Kill Cliff Fight Club rep went 4-0 in 2012, 2-0 in 2013, 3-0 in 2014, 1-1 in 2015, 1-1 in 2016, 1-0 in 2017, 2-1 in 2018, 3-0 in 2019, 2-0 in 2020, 1-1 in 2021 and 0-1 in 2022.

29: Takedowns completed by Movsar Evloev in his six UFC assignments, including nine each against Dan Ige and Hakeem Dawodu. The undefeated former M-1 Global champion dukes it out with Bryce Mitchell in a three-round featherweight showcase.

9: Mitchell victories by submission, accounting for 60% of his career total (15). His methods of choice: five rear-naked chokes, two triangle chokes, one twister and one armbar. Mitchell owns six other victories by decision (40%).

1,302: Days since Kron Gracie last appeared inside the Octagon. His most recent outing resulted in a unanimous decision loss to Cub Swanson at UFC Fight Night 161 on Oct. 12, 2019. The once-beaten Gracie toes the line against Charles Jourdain in a three-round featherweight feature.

139: Seconds needed for Jourdain to punch out Matar Lo at a TKO Major League MMA show on March 16, 2018. More than five years later, it remains his fastest finish to date.

26: Years of age for Rolando Bedoya. The youngest fighter on the card, he was born on Jan. 13, 1997 in Lima, Peru. Bedoya faces Kalinn Williams in a three-round welterweight prelim.

38: Years of age for Parker Porter. The oldest fighter on the card, he was born in Hartford, Conn., on April 22, 1985. Porter battles Braxton Smith in a three-round heavyweight prelim.

.799: Cumulative winning percentage between the 28 fighters booked to compete at the event. They sport a combined record of 400-99-4. Drew Dober has the most wins (26) and losses (11) of anyone on the card. The Elevation Fight Team export tackles Matt Frevola in a three-round lightweight prelim.
