By The Numbers: UFC 293 Pre-Fight Edition

Israel Adesanya will get what amounts to a home game when he defends his undisputed Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight crown opposite Sean Strickland in the UFC 293 main event on Saturday at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney. Meanwhile, Alexander Volkov toes the line against Tai Tuivasa in the three-round heavyweight co-headliner.

As UFC 293 “Adesanya vs. Strickland” approaches, a look at some of the numbers the fighters on the card bring to the table:

976: Significant strikes landed by Adesanya as a UFC middleweight, placing him fourth on the promotion’s all-time list at 185 pounds. Only Michael Bisping (1,384), Brad Tavares (1,004) and Robert Whittaker (989) have been credited with more.

100,000: Dollars in post-fight bonuses banked by Strickland across his 19 assignments in the UFC. He has been awarded “Performance of the Night” twice.

337: Days spent by Volkov as Bellator MMA heavyweight champion. He captured the title with a five-round unanimous decision over Rich Hale at Bellator 84 on Dec. 14, 2012, then surrendered it in a first-round technical knockout loss to Vitaly Minakov at Bellator 108 on Nov. 15, 2013.

20: Seconds needed for Tuivasa to put away Simon Osborne with punches at an Elite Cage Championships show in July 2012. More than 11 years later it remains his fastest finish to date.

22: Years of age for Felipe dos Santos. The youngest fighter on the card, he was born in Maceio, Brazil, on Sept. 11, 2000. Dos Santos makes his promotional debut opposite Manel Kape in a three-round flyweight showcase.

52: Rounds started by Kape as a professional mixed martial artist. He has gone the distance on six different occasions and carries a 2-4 record in those bouts.

11: Austen Lane wins by knockout or technical knockout, accounting for 92% of his career total (12). His list of victims includes Richard Jacobi, Juan Adams and Tebaris Gordon. Lane confronts Justin Tafa in a three-round heavyweight rematch.

74: Inches in reach for Tafa. He finds himself at a six-inch disadvantage against the 6-foot-6 Lane, who spent parts of five seasons in the NFL as a defense lineman for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs, Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears.

7: Organizations for which Anton Turkalj has plied his MMA trade. In addition to his 0-2 mark in the UFC, he has gone 3-0 in Brave Combat Federation, 1-0 in Dana White’s Contender Series, 1-0 in Real Xtreme Fighting, 1-0 in Fight Club Rush, 1-0 in Bulldog Media and 1-0 in Excellence Fighting Championship. Turkalj draws Tyson Pedro in a three-round light heavyweight attraction.

5: Pedro victories by submission, accounting for 56% of his career total (nine). His methods of choice: three rear-naked chokes, one guillotine choke and one kimura.

38: Years of age for John Makdessi. The oldest fighter on the card, he was born on May 3, 1985 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Makdessi meets Jamie Mullarkey in a three-round lightweight prelim.

.750: Cumulative winning percentage between the 24 fighters scheduled to compete at the event. They boast a combined record of 322-107-1. Volkov owns the most wins (36) and losses (10) of anyone on the card.
