Mike Perry is set to face Vicente Luque in an exciting welterweight encounter.

A win for Perry should bring him back into the rankings, while for Luque, a victory means a step closer to the Top 10. As they prepare for UFC Fight Night 156 on Aug. 10, here are some noteworthy numbers associated with the opposing 170 pounders.

Age and overall experience

Luque and Perry are both 27, but the former has been in the game much longer than the latter. The American-born Brazilian welterweight made his pro debut as far back as June 27, 2009 in an event called Fight Club 300, where he beat Andre Playboy with a first-round TKO. He has since fought in different promotions in Brazil before making his way to the Ultimate Fighting Championship by way of The Ultimate Fighter. In all, Luque has competed in 23 professional fights, with a record of 16-6-1.

Perry debuted professionally on Sept. 6, 2014, knocking out Hector Tirado at Top Alliance Combat 3, an event which also featured future UFC and Bellator standout Cody Pfister in the main event. Like Luque, Perry’s debut ended in round one. He later fought for various promotions, including one in the Bahamas, until the UFC signed and paired him up with Hyun Gyu Lim for his debut. Perry would win his promotional debut via knockout. After 17 professional fights, he has amassed a record of 13-4.

Winning streak

After losing to Leon Edwards at UFC Fight Night 107, Luque raked in five straight victories, beating the likes of Niko Price, Chad Laprise, Jalin Turner, Bryan Barberena and Derrick Krantz. This feat placed him in the 15th spot of the welterweight rankings.

Perry, on the other hand, is looking to make it two in a row, following his decision triumph over Alex Oliveira at UFC Fight Night 150.

Wins by knockout

Eleven of Perry’s 13 victories have come via KO or TKO. The Jackson-Wink MMA standout started his career with nine straight knockouts, dropping and stopping Tirado, James Rodriguez, Preston Parsons, Michael Roberts, Jon Manley, Frank Carillo, David Mundell, Lim and Danny Roberts. After suffering his first career loss to Alan Jouban, he would later starch two more opponents in the Octagon in Jake Ellenberger and Alex Reyes.

Luque’s hands are not to be overlooked either, with nine out of his 16 victories coming by KO or TKO. He notably holds a knockout win over recent UFC light heavyweight title challenger Thiago Santos, as well as the likes of Krantz, Barberena, Turner, Laprise, Belal Muhammad and Hector Urbina.

Wins by submission

With six victories by submission, Luque has been making good use of his jiu-jitsu brown belt and luta livre purple belt. Among the guys he has tapped out are Pedro Borges dos Santos, Darlan Almeida, Yuki Moura, Hayder Hassan, Alvaro Herrera and Price. As for the jiu-jitsu purple belt Perry, he has yet to score a victory by tapout. Advertisement
