By the Numbers: UFC 276

Israel Adesanya probably didn’t convert any new fans at UFC 276, but he nonetheless left T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas with his middleweight belt in hand.

“The Last Stylebender” earned a relatively uneventful unanimous decision triumph over Jared Cannonier in Saturday’s main event, extending championship reign that began in October 2019 and setting up a highly-anticipated showdown with kickboxing rival Alex Pereira at a future event.

In the co-main event, Alexander Volkanovski maintained his stranglehold on the featherweight division and improved to 3-0 against Max Holloway in the process, taking a dominant five-round verdict over the popular Hawaiian to conclude their trilogy. Volkanovski has his sights set on two-division championship status, so a move to 155 pounds could be in the offing.

Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC 276, with statistics courtesy of UFCStats.com.

12: Consecutive middleweight triumphs for Adesanya, the second-longest winning streak in the history of the division behind only Anderson Silva (13).

7: Victories in title bouts for Adesanya, which ranks No. 8 in UFC history just behind Randy Couture, Valentina Shevchenko and Jose Aldo, all of whom have eight such triumphs.

116: Significant strikes landed by Adesanya. By comparison, Cannonier landed 90. Adesanya outlanded his foe 22 to 18 in Round 1, 28 to 19 in Round 2, 24 to 16 in Round 4 and 25 to 20 in Round 5. Both fighters landed 17 significant strikes in Round 3. Adesanya also held a 163-to-141 advantage in total strikes landed.

36: Significant strike advantage at distance for Adesanya, who did his best work landing straight punches and kicks at range.

32: Significant body strikes for Cannonier. Adesanya, meanwhile, landed 26. Cannonier also outlanded his opponent by a 12-to-2 count in significant clinch strikes.

12: Consecutive UFC triumphs for Alexander Volkanovski, the second-longest active winning streak in the promotion behind only welterweight king Kamaru Usman (15). Volkanovski improved to 3-0 against Max Holloway with a clear-cut unanimous decision triumph in the UFC 276 co-main event.

22: Consecutive professional triumphs overall for Volkanovski, a streak that dates all the back to Dec. 14, 2013.

199: Significant strikes landed by Volkanovski, the second most of his UFC tenure and the most he has landed in three five-round bouts against Holloway. In those contests, Volkanovski has outlanded Holloway 199 to 127, 137 to 102 and 157 to 134.

152: Significant head strikes for Volkanovski. Holloway, meanwhile, landed 64 significant strikes to the head.

147: Significant strikes landed by Bryan Barberena in less than two rounds in a technical knockout victory against Robbie Lawler at welterweight. That’s the second most of Barberena’s promotional tenure, topped only by the 169 he landed in a third-round TKO loss to Vicente Luque at UFC on ESPN 1. Lawler, meanwhile, landed 81 significant strikes in defeat.

1-5: Record for Lawler in his last six UFC bouts. His lone victory during that stretch came in a third-round stoppage of Nick Diaz at UFC 266.

26: Significant leg strikes — out of 26 total — landed by Pedro Munhoz before an accidental eye poke ended his bout with Sean O’Malley at the 3:09 mark of Round 2. O’Malley employed a more balanced attack with 25 significant strikes landed, including 14 to the head, eight to the body and three to the legs.

8: UFC events with two submissions that occurred in less than a minute. UFC 276 joined that group thanks to quick tapouts by Turner and Julija Stoliarenko. No event has ever had three sub-minute submission finishes.

40: Career UFC fights for Jim Miller, most in the history of the Las Vegas-based promotion. Donald Cerrone, his opponent on Saturday night, has made the walk to the Octagon 38 times, which ties him with Andrei Arlovski for No. 2 all-time. Miller got revenge in their rematch, winning via submission in the second round of their welterweight clash.

16: Finishes in UFC competition for Miller, tying him with Cerrone for second most in UFC history. Only Charles Oliveira (19) has more.

29: Wins in UFC and WEC competition for Cerrone, who announced his retirement after his latest defeat. That total ranks No. 1 all-time among fighters for combined victories in UFC/WEC/Pride/Strikeforce competition.

20: Finishes for Cerrone in UFC and WEC bouts, the second most for fighters in the combined history of UFC, WEC, Pride and Strikeforce behind only Mirko Filipovic (21).

10:12: Total control time for Andre Muniz in a clear-cut decision triumph against Uriah Hall at middleweight. The Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt was successful on four of 10 takedowns and held a 99 to 24 edge in total strikes landed in the bout.

10: Career losses in UFC competition for Jessica Eye, tying her with Randa Markos for the second most in promotion history among female fighters. Eye dropped a unanimous decision to Maycee Barber in a preliminary flyweight matchup.

35: Significant clinch strikes — out of 63 total — landed by Barber. Eye, meanwhile, landed 16 significant clinch strikes — and 35 total — despite enjoying 8:09 of control time compared to Barber’s 1:52.

5: Victories at 125 pounds for Barber, tying her with four others for the fifth most in UFC history at that weight class.

0:42: Time of Julija Stoliarenko’s first-round armbar of Jessica-Rose Clark in a preliminary women’s bantamweight affair, the second fastest submission in the history of the division. Ronda Rousey owns the record with a 14-second tapout of Cat Zingano at UFC 184 on Feb. 28, 2015.

9: Career victories via armbar for Stoliarenko, who earned her first UFC triumph in five appearances on Saturday. Coincidentally, all of Stoliarenko’s armbar wins have occurred inside of a round.
