Islam Makhachev is like a freight train gaining frightening momentum.

The Dagestani grappler overwhelmed short-notice foe Bobby Green in the UFC Fight Night 202 headliner, winning via technical knockout at the 3:23 mark of Round 1 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Saturday night. Though the bout was contested at a 160-pound catchweight, the performance could solidify Makhachev as the No. 1 contender in the lightweight division.

Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC Fight Night 202, with statistics courtesy of UFCStats.com.

10: Consecutive victories for Makhachev, tying him with Charles Oliveira and Alexander Volkanovski for the second-longest active winning streak in the UFC behind only Kamaru Usman (15). Makhachev is the only one in that group who doesn’t have a belt in his possession.

7: Finishes in UFC competition for Makhachev. That’s as many as his teammate, former UFC lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov. However, Makhachev reached that number in one less Octagon appearance.

30: Total strikes landed by Makhachev. By comparison, Green landed 11.

9: Significant strikes landed by Green in the abbreviated bout. That’s still the fifth most landed by a Makhachev opponent during his 12-bout UFC tenure.

26: Total strike advantage for Misha Cirkunov prior to falling to Wellington Turman via armbar at the 1:29 mark of Round 2 in the co-main event. Cirkunov fell to 0-2 since moving to 185 pounds.

68: Significant strike deficit for Priscila Cachoeira in a unanimous decision triumph over Ji Yeon Kim at flyweight. That’s the largest deficit ever for a fighter who won a decision in a three-round bout. The all-time record is held by Robbie Lawler, who was outlanded by 84 significant strikes in a win over Carlos Condit in a welterweight title fight at UFC 195.

85: Significant strikes landed by Kim in Round 3, the second most ever in a women’s flyweight fight in UFC competition behind the 86 landed by Casey O’Neill against Roxanne Modafferi at UFC 271. Cachoeira, meanwhile, landed 58 significant strikes in the frame.

14: Media scorecards, of the 15 tracked by MMADecisions.com, who awarded the bout to Kim. Judges Michael Bell, Adalaide Byrd and Sal D’Amato all submitted 29-28 tallies for Cachoeira.

5: Consecutive victories for Arman Tsarukyan, tying him with Rafael Fiziev for the fifth-longest active winning streak in the UFC’s lightweight division. Tsarukyan defeated fellow prospect Joel Alvarez via second-round TKO in a featured bout on Saturday.

32: Significant ground strikes, out of 36 total landed by Tsarukyan in a dominant performance. The American Top Team representative went 2-for-2 on takedowns and logged 6:08 of control time.

127: Significant strikes landed by Armen Petrosyan in a split-decision triumph against Gregory Rodrigues, the fourth most in UFC history in a three-round fight at 185 pounds. Petrosyan distributed his offense nicely, landing 50 significant strikes to the head, 38 to the body and 39 to the legs.

10: Unofficial media scorecards, of the 14 tracked by MMADecisions.com, that awarded the fight to Rodrigues. While the Brazilian was outstruck, he appeared to land the more powerful offense in the fight. However, judges Michael Bell and Tony Weeks saw things differently, allowing Petrosyan to win a split verdict.

126: Significant strikes landed by Ignacio Bahamondes in a third-round technical knockout victory against Zhu Rong at lightweight. By comparison, Rong landed 48 significant strikes. Bahamondes was also quite accurate, landing at a 64 percent clip compared to 37 percent for his opponent.

343: Combined significant strikes landed by Bahamondes in his first three Octagon appearances, wins over Rhong and Roosevelt Roberts and a loss to John Makdessi. Bahamondes hit the century mark for significant strikes in each of those bouts.

46: Significant strikes by which Josiane Nunes outlanded Ramona Pascual in their featherweight clash. The Brazilian had a pair of knockdowns in the bout and notably outlanded her foe by a 39-to-9 count in a lopsided Round 2.

5: Consecutive first-round finishes for Terrance McKinney, who earned his second such victory in UFC competition with a submission of Fares Ziam 2:11 into the opening round of their lightweight encounter. McKinney’s previous four triumphs totaled a combined 1:52.

9: Career first-round submission victories in professional competition — including two in the UFC — for Ramiz Brahimaj, who tapped Micheal Gillmore with a rear-naked choke 2:02 into Round 1 of their welterweight encounter.

20: Fights in UFC history in which neither fighter landed a single significant strike. Brahimaj vs. Gillmore was the latest bout to earn this unusual distinction. Brahimaj landed one takedown and attempted three submissions before securing the tapout.

42: Significant body strikes — out of 79 total — landed by Victor Altamirano in a split-decision loss to Carlos Hernandez at flyweight. Overall, Hernandez held an 84-to-79 edge in significant strikes — including a 56-to-32 advantage in head strikes.

6: Dana White’s Contender Series alums on the UFC Fight Night 202 card, including Victor Altamirano, Carlos Hernandez, Terrance McKinney, Ignacio Bahamondes, Armen Petrosyan and Gregory Rodrigues. Four of those athletes — Altamirano vs. Hernandez and Petrosyan vs. Rodriguez — were paired against each other. Advertisement
