Sherdog Boxing: The Weekly Wrap

More Videos of Billy Joe Saunders Being a Terrible Person Emerge

This week, two videos emerged of Billy Joe Saunders being a terrible human being. First was a video of the British middleweight in his Rolls Royce taunting a seemingly homeless woman with the offer that he would give her crack if she either performed a sex act on his friend or punched a passerby and called him a “paedo.” Then, another video emerged in which Saunders pretends to be a cop and forces a man to strip naked by telling him he is concerned the man has a weapon on him. However, like Saunders’ maturity level, that video was found to be two years old.

Billy Joe Saunders is no stranger to controversy. Over the course of his career, the 29 year-old fighter has thrown chicken at Deontay Wilder, shamed a gender-neutral worker online, gotten suspended for sexually harassing a woman while on the Olympic team, and had his son accused of calling Willie Monroe Jr. the N-word after punching him in the nuts.

Saunders fights Demetrius Andrade Oct. 20th in Boston provided he doesn’t get the fight cancelled with his shenanigans.

David Benavidez Fails Drug Test Over Cocaine

WBC super-middleweight champion David Benavidez was looking to face Anthony Dirrell this fall, but that fight will likely not happen until much later after VADA flagged the young American for benzoylecgonine, the main ingredient in Tyson Fury’s favorite drug, cocaine. Benavidez took responsibility and apologized for his use, saying in part “I am embarrassed to have this happen and to my all my fans that I lost the respect of I know a lot of people won’t see me the same but I am young and it was a mistake on my behalf.”

Manuel Charr’s Fight Against Fres Oquendo Off After Charr Tests Positive For Steroids

In a move that is sure to devastatingly disappoint the entirety of the boxing world, Dan Rafael’s favorite fighter Fres Oquendo’s fight with Manuel Charr has been cancelled after Charr tested positive for two separate types of anabolic steroids. With Luis Ortiz continuing to get big fights and Alexander Povetkin fighting Anthony Joshua this weekend, testing positive for PEDs will likely not have a huge impact on Charr’s career.

Canelo Alvarez to Fight Non-GGG Opponent in December?

According to Oscar de la Hoya, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is deciding whether he should fight a yet unnamed opponent on Dec. 15 in either Las Vegas or New York City. In his victory over Gennady Golovkin, Alvarez suffered a deep cut over his left eye which is causing some of the hesitation about whether this fight should happen or not. David Lemieux is the obvious opponent choice, as he is the mandatory challenger for one of Alvarez’s belts, but De la Hoya also named Jermall Charlo as a possible opponent Alvarez’s team could consider.

Unless De la Hoya doesn’t think a third fight with GGG will sell well on PPV, this is a very odd move for the mostly savvy businessman to make. Risking a Cinco de Mayo fight with "GGG" by putting Canelo in with a slick boxer like Charlo or a man with a left hook like Lemieux’s makes very little sense. It will probably happen.

Mayweather to take Tune-Up Fight in Japan before Pacquiao Rematch?

In another seemingly insane idea, Floyd Mayweather is reportedly considering taking a tune-up fight in Japan before his rematch against Manny Pacquiao. Again, by taking a fight before his rematch with Manny Pacquiao Floyd risks throwing away a colossal payday on one lucky punch. And before you say, “yeah but he’ll be facing some nobody” please remember that Floyd’s last fight was against a guy who had never had a professional boxing match before in his life, and he didn’t look so great in that one.

Bellew-Usyk Official for Nov. 10.

Although last week there were rumors the fight was in trouble over Usyk having a mandatory challenger he needed to face first, this week the match between Oleksandr Usyk and Tony Bellew was made official for November 10 at the Manchester Arena.

Usyk will be a huge favorite in the fight, even though it will take place in Bellew’s home country. He is already being talked about as a future opponent for Anthony Joshua despite having never fought at heavyweight. Bellew however will do a lot to boost Usyk’s profile. He is well known in England and is perhaps best known in America for his appearance in the massively overrated Rocky sequel “Creed.”

Gervonta Davis Arrested for Streetfight

A couple of weeks back, Gervonta Davis was filmed slapping the phone out of the hands of a fan who was looking to take a selfie with him. This week was much worse for the man they call “Tank” as he was arrested for disorderly conduct following a streetfight in Washington DC, reportedly over a $10,000 bar tab.

The police report described the incident by saying the two men were "punching each other with a closed fist about the upper body" which is interesting. The fact that the police report didn’t say “Davis punched the other guy and he died because Gervonta Davis is an elite professional boxer” should quell any idea that Gervonta would have a chance against T.J. Dillashaw in a UFC Octagon.

Adrien Broner Banned From Uber For Wild Dancing and Distracting Driver

And finally, Adrien Broner has found himself banned from ever using Uber again, after he got so excited about hearing “Sicko Mode” by Drake and Travis Scott that he cranked the radio as loud as it could go, screamed in his driver’s face, and began wildly dancing in a manner which was so distracting it caused the driver to pull over and refuse to go any further. Uber then banned him from ever using the app after their review of the incident. This would be a great opportunity for Lyft to use Broner in a marketing campaign, depending on how much “About Billions” think his endorsement would be worth.
