The Walkmen: UFC Fight Night ‘Lewis vs. Browne’

By Mike Sloan Feb 20, 2017

The Ultimate Fighting Championship on Sunday returned to Halifax, Nova Scotia, with UFC Fight Night 105 at the Scotiabank Centre. Headlined by a pivotal heavyweight showdown between Derrick Lewis and Travis Browne, the event brought with it fireworks -- and some interesting musical tastes.

Lewis opted to go with Trae Tha Truth & Z-Ro’s “Umm Hmm” ahead of his main event clash with Browne, while the Hawaiian chose Yelawolf’s “Till It’s Gone” to trumpet his arrival. Meanwhile, Johny Hendricks and Hector Lombard squared off in the co-headliner. “Bigg Rigg” selected the Josh Abbott Band anthem “My Texas” to spearhead his entrance; Lombard heard DJ Tiesto’s “Adagaio for Strings” as he strode to the cage.

There were other memorable song choices. The spotlight shined on Dropkick Murphys twice: “Johnny I Hardly Knew Ya” brought Gavin Tucker to the Octagon, and “Shipping Up to Boston” blared through the speakers thanks to Paul Felder. Other standout selections included Bill Conte’s ubiquitous “Gonna Fly Now” (Cezar Ferreira), Robert Tepper’s “No Easy Way Out” (Reginaldo Vieira), Pantera’s “Walk” (Carla Esparza), Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror” (Alessandro Ricci) and Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds” (Jack Marshman).
