10 Fights Signed for Shooto Brazil 24

Ten fights are official for Shooto Brazil 24, including a headlining South American 220-pound title tilt between Glover Teixeira and Antonio Mendes (Pictured; file photo).

The event, going down Aug. 5 from Nilson Nelson Gymnasium in Brasilia, Brazil, will also feature a 115-pound championship bout between Lincoln de Sa and Andre Costa Pereira. Additionally, rookie Vinicius Boneco will tangle with experienced veteran Joao Paulo Rodrigues de Souza.

A Ruas Vale Tudo export, Teixeira enters his upcoming title fight riding a 10-fight winning streak. The Brazilian’s last loss came in 2005 to UFC veteran Ed Herman. Since that time, Teixeira has earned wins in the WEC, Palace Fighting Championship and Bitetti Combat. Most recently, the 31-year-old competed at Shooto Brazil 23, knocking out Neilton Jose Simao Melo in just 1:49 on June 4. Before Teixeira meets Mendes, however, he will first take on submission specialist Marcio Cruz at Clube da Luta on July 20.

Mendes, 30, is a two-time UFC veteran. After winning nine straight bouts to gain entry to the biggest show on earth, the Brazilian was stopped in both of his Octagon appearances, falling to Thiago Silva and Eric Schafer in 2008 and 2009, respectively. The back-to-back defeats signaled the start of a five-fight skid for “Samuray.” Mendes righted the ship in December, however, earning a technical knockout win at Shooto Brazil 20. He capitalized on the newfound momentum, most recently outpointing Cleber Tavares de Moura on June 4.
