World Extreme Cagefighting announced this week that they will officially be taking the plunge into pay-per-view, promoting an April 24 card from Arco Arena in Sacramento, Calif.

The $44.99 offering will be headlined by top draw Urijah Faber vs. Jose Aldo for the featherweight title and a rematch of Sherdog.com’s 2009 “Fight of the Year,” as Donald Cerrone rematches Ben Henderson for the lightweight gold.

WEC promises at least five fights on the card, including Mike Thomas Brown vs. Manny Gamburyan. The card is being set in WEC’s strongest arena -- Faber’s hometown.

WEC General Manager Reed Harris said in interviews that pay-per-view will be reserved only for one or two major cards a year when universally anticipated fights present themselves. The promotion has a contract to stage seven events on Versus this year. Officials see WEC pay-per-views as a way to bring in more revenue that will allow for higher fighter compensation and expansion of the schedule and roster.

Harris told MMA Nation Radio that the show will be billed as “UFC Presents: WEC 48: Aldo v. Faber.” Tickets were set to go on sale Feb. 6.
