In a pivotal showdown between surging welterweights,
Team Takedown representative Johny
Hendricks will meet former Sportfight champion Mike Pierce
(Pictured; file photo) at UFC
133 “Evans vs. Davis” on Aug. 6 at the Wells Fargo Center in
Philadelphia. Five bouts are now booked for the event, which will
air live on pay-per-view.
Hendricks (10-1, 5-1 UFC) last appeared at UFC Fight Night 24 in March, when he needed just 95 seconds to stop Anthony Waldburger on first-round punches at the KeyArena in Seattle. The 27-year-old Ada, Okla., native was a two-time national champion and four-time NCAA All-American wrestler at Oklahoma State University.
Hendricks has secured seven of his 10 professional victories by
knockout, technical knockout or submission. Wins over
AMA Fight Club standout Charlie
Brenneman and “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 7 winner Amir
Sadollah highlight his resume.
Based in the Pacific Northwest, Pierce (12-3, 4-1 UFC) will carry a three-fight winning streak into the match. The 30-year-old former Sportfight champion last competed at UFC 126 in February, when he put away Kenny Robertson with first-round punches at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. A Portland, Ore., native, Pierce has trained extensively with world-ranked middleweight Chael Sonnen. In 15 professional outings, he has never been finished.
A light heavyweight duel between former champion Rashad Evans and unbeaten prospect Phil Davis will headline UFC 133. The event will also carry a middleweight battle pairing Jorge Rivera with American Top Team veteran Alessio Sakara, a welterweight matchup pitting Dennis Hallman against Brian Ebersole and a middleweight bout matching former Deep titleholder Riki Fukuda with Rafael Natal.
